Abstract

A use-activated tissue dispenser capable of mechanically sensing the removal of individual tissues (2) from a tissue box (3) is provided. In some embodiments, the tissue dispenser is a cover (1, 50) placed over a tissue box (3) in a removable fashion. The cover (1, 50) could include a housing comprising of a top wall (5), a bottom wall (15), and/or side walls (4), at least one mechanical switch (9), at least one control circuit (14), and at least one active element (8). Mechanical switches (9) are disposed about an opening (19) along the housing. The control circuit (14) communicates with the mechanical switches (9), active elements (8), and power supply (13). Active elements (8) produce light, sound, scent, and/or motion after a tissue (2) is removed from the tissue dispenser (3). In other embodiments, mechanical switches (9), control circuit (14), active elements (8), and power supply (13) could be directly integrated into the structure of a tissue box (38).
