Description

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR STORING BROADCASTING CONTENT IN
DMB SYSTEM
Technical Field The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for storing content in a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB), particularly, to an apparatus and method in which a receiver of a DMB system accurately stores a corresponding content according to recording status information transmitted in real time together with the content from a broadcasting station. This work was supported by the IT R&D program of MIC/IITA [2006-S-082-02,
Development of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting Technology for Personalized Broadcasting].
Background Art A terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) provides a multimedia service in addition to digital audio service based on European EUREKA- 147 Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). In the multimedia service, MPEG-4 Bit Sliced Arithmetic Coding (BSAC) is applied to audio, MPEG-4 AVC is applied to video, and MPEG-4- Binary Format for Scenes (BIFS). A broadcasting station makes a table of program schedule with respect to a
DMB broadcasting channel similar to a Digital Television (DTV), and provides Electronic Content Guide (ECG) with respect to the table of program schedule to a user through the Internet or a broadcasting channel, thereby increasing convenience of use. Here, the ECG information may include content reference identification information, channel information, start time and broadcast duration information for a corresponding channel, and the like.
A DMB receiver provides a service that enables the use to watch the content in real time without limit of a place as well as a content recording service that enables the user to watch the content without limit of a watching time. It may happen that a content recorded by a conventional DMB receiver may not be accurately replayed from a start of the content but replayed before and after the start, and may be ended before and after the end, since the broadcasting station may not accurately broadcast the corresponding content according to a scheduled time in ECG information announced from the broadcasting station. When the broadcasting station changes the scheduled time, the scheduled time may not be provided to the user in real time with the scheduled time updating, or the content replayed by the broadcasting station in real time may not accurately end according to the scheduled time. Therefore, a difference between a scheduled time in the announced ECG and an actual broadcasting time may occur.
One of various methods for solving this problem is that the broadcasting station informs a DMB receiver of recording status information in real time when transmitting contents, the recording status information including content reference identification information to identify the transmitted content and start/end time information about when the corresponding content accurately starts and ends. The DMB receiver may not record the corresponding content according to an arranged time for broadcasting contents that may not be accurate, but may record the corresponding content based on the recording status information that is transmitted from the broadcasting station in real time.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Reference will now be made in detail to embodiments of the present invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to the like elements throughout.
Example embodiments of the present invention relate to an apparatus and method in which a receiver for receiving contents stores the content from an accurate start time to an accurate end time when a broadcasting station transmits content with metadata including content reference identification information, content start time, broadcast duration information, and current recording information.
FIG. 1 illustrates a configuration of an apparatus for storing content in a DMB system according to example embodiments. Referring to FIG. 1, the apparatus for storing content includes a controlling unit 100, a Radio Frequency (RF) receiver 102, an ensemble demultiplexer 104, a Transport Stream (TS) demultiplexer 106, a section processing unit 108, and a content storing unit 110.
The RF receiver 102 receives Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) signals of a channel bandwidth controlled by the controlling unit 100, demodulates the received broadcasting signals, and transmits the demodulated broadcasting signals to the ensemble demultiplexer 104.
The ensemble demultiplexer 104 extracts Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG)-2-Transport Streams (TSs) from the demodulated broadcasting signals to transmit the extracted signals to the TS demultiplexer 106.
The TS demultiplexer 106 separately extracts MPEG-2-TSs including content and MPEG-2-TSs including content recording status information (content reference identification information, content start time, broadcast duration information, and current recording information) from the MPEG-2 TSs extracted by the ensemble demultiplexer.
Also, the TS demultiplexer 106 provides the MPEG-2 TSs including the recording status information to the section processing unit 108 and stores the MPEG-2 TSs including the content (namely, content) in the content storing unit according to the controlling unit 100. The section processing unit 108 analyzes the MPEG-2-TSs including the recording status information to check the content reference identification information, content start time, broadcast duration information and current recording information included in the recording status information, and provides the checked information to the controlling unit 100. The content storing unit 110 stores content provided from the TS demultiplexer
106 according to control of the controlling unit 100.
The controlling unit 100 is requested to record content from a user, and when a current time is a start time of corresponding content for which recording is requested, the controlling unit 100 controls the RF receiver 102 and changes a bandwidth of a reception channel into a bandwidth of a channel that receives the corresponding recording-requested content. Next, when receiving status information of the corresponding content from the section processing unit 108, the controlling unit 100 checks the current recording information included in the recording status information and stores the corresponding content in the content storing unit 110 for the duration that the current recording information has a record value.
The recording status information of the content is composed of content reference identification information, corresponding content start time, broadcast duration information, and current recording information. Also, the recording status information is stored in the MPEG-2 descriptor of FIG. 2 included in a Transport Stream Description Table (TSDT) of an MPEG-2 system, and transmitted to the apparatus for storing the content.
FIG. 2 illustrates a configuration of a content labeling descriptor that writes content reference identification information and a start time and broadcast duration information of corresponding broadcasting content.
FIG. 2 illustrates an expansion descriptor of a content labeling descriptor defined in an ISO/IEC MPEG-2 system Amendment 1 , which is expansively defined so as to include content start time and broadcast duration information. Main fields with respect to the content labeling descriptor are described in Table 1 as below.
[Table 1]

FIG. 3 illustrates a configuration of an MPEG-2 TSDT including the content labeling descriptor.
The TSDT defined in the MPEG-2 System Standard is transmitted, in which table id is set to 0 X 03 and PID is set to 0 x 0002.
Main fields of the TSDT are described as in Table 2 as below. [Table 2]
Figure imgf000010_0001
Hereinafter, a method for storing content in a DMB system according to the present invention configured as described above is described referring to drawings.
FIG. 4 is a flowchart illustrating a process of storing content in an apparatus for storing content for accurate broadcast duration.
Referring to FIG. 4, when receiving a request for reserved recording of content in operation 400, the apparatus for storing content proceeds with operation 402 to verify whether a current time is an expected broadcast start time of the corresponding content.
As a result of the verification, when the current time is the expected broadcast stat time of the corresponding content, the apparatus proceeds with operation 404 to change a current bandwidth to a bandwidth of a channel that receives the corresponding recording-requested content.
Next, the apparatus for storing content receives and demodulates broadcasting signals in operation 406, ensemble demultiplexes the demodulated signals to extract
MPEG-2 TSs in operation 408, and separately extracts MPEG-2 TSs including content and MPEG-2 TSs including recording status information from the MPEG-2-TSs extracted through ensemble demultiplexing in operation 410.
The apparatus for storing content verifies whether a current recording information value included in the recording status information signifies end in operation 412. As a result of the verification, when the current recording information value included in the recording status information signifies end, the apparatus proceeds with operation 416. Operation 416 will be described after description of operation 414.
As the result of the verification, when the current recording information value signifies record, the apparatus proceeds with operation 414 to store MPEG-2 TSs including extracted content (namely, corresponding content), and verifies whether the current recording information value is changed from record to end in operation 416. As a result of operation 416, the current recording information value is changed from record to end, a reserved-recording algorithm is ended.
However, as the result of operation 416, when the current recording information value is a value excluding the value changed from record to end, namely, a value signifying record and a value continuously maintaining a previous status and signifying end, the apparatus returns to operation 406 to performs operations 406 to 416 and repeats the operations until the current recording information value signifies the value changed from record to end.
The method for storing content in a DMB system may be recorded computer- readable media including program instructions to implement various operations embodied by a computer. The media may also include, alone or in combination with the program instructions, data files, data structures, and the like. The described hardware devices may be configured to act as one or more software modules in order to perform the operations and methods described above, or vice versa. Although a few embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, the present invention is not limited to the described embodiments. Instead, it would be appreciated by those skilled in the art that changes may be made to these embodiments without departing from the principles and spirit of the invention, the scope of which is defined by the claims and their equivalents.
