Abstract
Monodispersing CNT in a solvent is necessary for expanding the application of carbon nanotubes (hereinafter referred to as CNT) as a material. Long CNTs produced, for example, by CVD are disadvantageously aggregated with each other to form a bundle by intermolecular attractive force, and, thus, monodispersing CNT in a solvent is difficult. Therefore, the long CNT should be cut into short sizes. Accordingly, the present invention provides a method for cutting CNT, which is excellent in mass producibility and can cut CNT while controlling the length of CNT. The method for cutting CNT is characterized by comprising a covering step of mixing CNT with molecules for a mask in a solvent to cover places of CNT with the molecules for a mask, and an oxidation step of heating the CNT covered with the molecules for a mask in a hydrogen peroxide solution while applying light to allow CNT in its parts not covered with the molecules for a mask to disappear by oxidation.
