Abstract

An optical fiber (100) having increased Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) threshold value and reduced macro-bendin loss comprises a core region and a clad region surrounding the core region. The core region is divided into four sub-core regions, namely first core region (102), second core region (104), third core region (106), and fourth core region (108), with respective relative refractive indices related by Δ1, > Δ 2> Δ 3> Δ 4. The clad region is divided into four sub-clad regions, namely first cla region (110), second clad region (112), third clad region (114), and fourth clad region (116), with respective relative refractive indices related by Δ 7= Δ 8> Δ 5> Δ 6, wherein, the relative refractive indices of the first core region (102), second core region (104), third core region (106), fourth core region (108), first clad region (110), second clad region (112), third clad region (114), and fourth clad region (116) are Δ 1, A 2, Δ 3, Δ 4, Δ 5, Δ 6, Δ 7, and Δ 8, respectively.
