Abstract

An optical fiber (10) having increased Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) threshold value and reduced macro-bending loss comprises a core region and a clad region surrounding the core region. The core region is divided into three sub-core regions, namely first core region (11), second core region (12), and third core region (13), having respective relative refractive indices related by Δ 1> Δ 3> Δ 2. The clad region is divided into four sub-clad regions, namely first clad region (14), second clad region (15), third clad region (16), and fourth clad region (17), having respective relative refractive indices related by Δ 6= Δ 7> Δ 4> Δ 5. Wherein, the relative refractive indices of the first core region (11), second core region (12), third core region (13), first clad region (14), second clad region (15), third clad region (16), and fourth clad region (17) are Δ 1, A 2, Δ 3, Δ 4, Δ 5, Δ 6, Δ 7 respectively.
