Abstract

A bioreactor for generation and complex mechanical stimulation of engineered biological tissue comprises a body (2) defining a culture chamber (3) which is adapted to be filled with a culture liquid in which a scaffold is supported. Advantageously, two opposed pistons (5, 6) are slideably received into said body (2) to cover a predetermined operating stroke in the culture chamber (3) from a retracted position to a forward position and operate on the volume (3) of the culture chamber (3), said scaffold being interposed between the two ends of the pistons (5, 6).
