Description
JEWELRY APPARATUS
[001] The present invention relates generally to jewelry and a method for setting gemstαnes. In particular, the present invention reiates to arrangements of gemstones that enhance their visual characteristics.
[002] Gemstones may be arranged to enhance the appearance of the individual gems and the group of gems. Together, they may enhance their visual characteristics and cause Sight to reflect or refract providing a visually pleasing arrangement,
[003] One issue within the art is that larger gemstones are more expensive, so it is desirable to provide a setting that looks like one Sarge gemstone, but is in fact comprised of a number of smaller gemstones. However, this can be difficult to provide the appearance of a single solid gemstone when using only round gemstones.
[004] US. Patent Number 4,936,115 issued to iVJessica provides a central gem with complementary gemstones at least partially surrounding the central gem and a setting for the central gem and complementary gemstones. The complementary gemstones are elongate gemstones each defining a separate longitudinal axis. Each complementary gemstone has two diverging angled faces forming an enclosure proximate to and positioning at least a portion of the faces to the pavilion of the central gem. The 1115 patent provides that at least a portion of the light passing inward through the mounted complementary gemstones is refracted and enters into the centra! gem and this refracted light can greatly enhance the appearance of the central gem. The '115 patent though, is very complicated to fabricate and expensive. Specifically, mounting gemstones of different heights is very complicated. The complementary gemstones are twice the length of the center gem and in use this is very difficult to fabricate.
[005] A continuing need exist within the art to provide a gemstone arrangement that does not have complex requirements for the dimensions, positioning and type of the gemstones.
[006] These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention Will become better understood with reference to the following description and claims,
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[007] The present invention relates generally to systems and methods for setting gemstones.
[00S] According to a first embodiment, a gemstone arrangement is provided comprising; four gemstones, wherein the four gemstones are arranged in two rows and two columns to form a square having four sides each of the four sides made up of two of the gemstones sides; eight round cut gemstones, wherein two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a first side of the larger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a second side of the larger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a third side of the larger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a fourth side of the larger square.
[009] According to another embodiment, a gemstone arrangement is provided comprising: four square cut gemsfones, wherein the four gemstones are arranged in two rows and two columns to form a square having four sides each of the four sides made up of two of the gemstones sides; eight round cut gemstones, wherein two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a first side of the iarger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a second side of the larger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a third side of the larger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones abut a fourth side of the larger square, wherein the height of the four gemstones and the eight round cut gemstones are within thirty percent of the same height of any of the four gemstones and the eight round cut gemsfones.

|012] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the genera! principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
[013] With reference to Figures 1-8, a gemstone arrangement is provided comprising: Four gemstones (10, 12, 14, 16), wherein the four gernstones (10, 12, 14, 16) are arranged in two rows (14 and 12 make up one row and 10 and 10 make up another row) and two columns (14 and 16 make up one column and 12 anύ 10 make up a second coiumn) to form a square having four sides each of the four sides made up of two of the gemstones sides. The term gemstone is interchangeable with jewel. Gemstones may be diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphire, amethyst, or any other gemstone known within the art. it is envisioned that according to one embodiment, all of the gemstones are of similar heights and no gemstone is more than one and a half times the height of any other gemstone. As shown in Figure 1 , each side is made up of the sides of the two square gemstones. For example the first (top) side is made up of the top sides of gemstones 14 and 12 together. The second (left) side is made up of the left sides of gemstones 14 and 16, the third (bottom) side is made up of the bottoms of gemstones 16 and 10 and the fourth (right) side is made up of the right side of diamonds 12 and 10. There are aiso eight round cut gemstones, wherein two (18 and 20) of the eight round cut gemstones abut a first side (made up of gemstones 14 and 16) of the larger square, two of the eight round cut gemstones (22 and 24) abut a second side of the larger square (made up of the sides of 14 and 16), two of the eight round cut gemstones (26 and 28) abut a third ssde of the larger square (made up of the bottoms of gemstones 16 and 10), two of the eight
round cut gemstoπes (30 and 32) abut a fourth side of the larger square (made up of the right sides of gemstones 12 and 10). The height of the four gemstones {10, 12, 14 and 16) and the eight round cut gemstones (18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32) are within thirty percent of the same height of any of the four gemstones and the eight round cut gemstoπes. This is to say the height of each gemstone is within 30 percent plus or minus any of the other gemstones. According to one embodiment, the one of the eight round cut gemstones (18) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (12), one of the eight round cut gemstones (20) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamond (14), one of the eight round Gut gemstones (22) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (14), one of the eight round cut gemstones (24) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (16), one of the eight round cut gemstones (26) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (16), one of the eight round cut gemstones (28) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (10), one of the eight round cut gemstones (30) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (10) and one of the eight round cut gemstones (32) abuts an outer edge of square cut diamonds (12), The four center gemstones (10, 12, 14, 18) are square cut. Each gemstone may be held in piace by a prong setting (e.g. 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46; 48, 50, 52, 54, 56). According to one embodiment, there are two prong settings approximately half way aiong one side (for example prongs 34 and 38 are halfway along the side formed by the tops of diamonds 12 and 14). it should be envisioned that many different settings, including prong, pave, pressure, tension, channel, invisible round, invisible princess and nick may be sued without departing from the present invention. Also, according to one embodiment there are prongs at each comer of the four square cut gemstones (10, 12, 14 and 16), There may also be a second prong at the midway point of each side holding in two diamonds in place. For example, prong 34 is at the midway point of the side formed by square cut gemstones (12 and 14) and holds in gemstones (18) and (20). Prong (42) is at the midway point of the side formed by square cut gemstones (14 and 16) and holds in round gemstones (22) and (24). Prong (46) is at the midway point of the side formed by square cut gemstones (16 and 10) and holds in round gemstones (28) and
(28). Prong (54) is at the midway point of the side formed by square cut gemstones (12 and 10) and holds in round gemstones (32) and (30). The diamonds may also be set in an invisible setting. An invisible setting is one in which the stones closely abut one another so as to convey the appearance of a continuous integral precious stone.
[014] As shown in Figure 7, the four gemstones may be at a first height (100) and the eight round cut gemstones (102) are at a second height. According to the embodiment shown, the four square center gemstones are a shorter height (100) than the height (102) of the eight round cut gemstones. The four square center gemstones may also be at a height greater than the height of the eight round cut gemstones. As shown in Figure 8, each of the eight round cut gemstones may be arranged at an angle towards the four center square gemstones (as depicted by gemstones (150 and 152). The eight round cut gemstones may also arranged at an angle away from the four center square gemstones. The four gemstones may be a first coior and the eight round cut gemstones may be a second color. It is also envisioned that the setting may be on many different mounts, including earrings (200), ring (170), pendant (180) and a bracelet. The arrangement may also be repeated (182, 184, 188), as shown in Figure 9.
[015] As shown in Figures 10~21 s there may be a row (300) of at least twenty round cut gemstones surrounding the eight round cut gemstones. There may also be a support (302) between the row (300) of at least twenty round cut gemstones. This may be a ring (304), a pendant (306) and earrings (308). As shown in Figures 16-21 , there may be a single center gemstone (312), surrounded by a row of eight round cut gemstones, wherein two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a first side of said center gemstone, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a second side of said center gemstone, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a third side of said center gemstone, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a fourth side of said center gemstone. There may also be another row of at least twenty round cut gemstones surrounding the
row of eight round cut gemstones. This setting may be a ring (314), pendant (316) and earrings (320).
|023] It should be understood that the foregoing relates to preferred embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following daims.
Claims
1. A gemstoπe arrangement comprising.
Four gemstones, wherein said four gemstones are arranged in two rows and two columns to form a square having four sides each of said four sides made up of two of said gemstones sides;
Eight round cut gemstones, wherein two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a first side of said larger square, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a second side of said larger square, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a third side of said larger square, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a fourth side of said larger square.
2. A gemstoπe arrangement as in claim 1 , wherein said four gemstones are square cut,
3. A gemstone arrangement as sn claim 1 , wherein each said diamond is heid in place by at least one prong setting.
4. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1 , wherein each said diamond is set in an invisible setting.
5. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1, wherein said four gemstones are at a first height and said eight round cut gemstones are at a second height.
6. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1. wherein each of said eight round cut gemstones are arranged at an angle to title towards said square.
7. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1 , wherein the height of said four gemstones and said eight round cut gemstones are within thirty percent of the same height of any of said four gemstones and said eight round cut gemstones,
8, A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1 , wherein said four gemstones are a first color and said eight round cut gemstones are a second color.
9, A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1 , further comprising a mount, wherein said mount is selected from the group consisting of earrings, ring, bracelet and pendant.
10. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1 , further comprising a row of at least twenty round gut gemstones surrounding said eight round cut gemstones.
11. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 1 , wherein said arrangement is repeated,
12, A gemstone arrangement comprising.
Four square cut gemstones, wherein said four gemstones are arranged in two rows and two columns to form a square having four sides each of said four sides made up of two of said gemstones sides;
Eight round cut gemstones, wherein two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a first side of said larger square, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a second side of said larger square, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a third side of said iarger square, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a fourth side of said larger square, wherein the height of said four gemstones and said eight round cut gemstones are within thirty percent of the same height of any of said four gemstones and said eight round cut gemstones.
13. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, wherein each said diamond is heid in place by at least one prong setting.
14. A gemstone arrangement as in cSaim 12, wherein each said diamond is set in an invisible setting.
15. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, wherein said four gemstones are at a first height and said eight round cut gemstoπes are at a second height.
16. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, wherein each of said eight round cut gemstones are arranged at an angle to title towards said square.
17. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, wherein said four gemstones are a first color and said eight round cut gemstones are a second color.
18. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, further comprising a mount, wherein said mount is selected from the group consisting of earrings, ring, bracelet and pendant.
19. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, wherein said arrangement is repeated.
20. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 12, further comprising a row of at least twenty round gut gemstones surrounding said eight round cut gemstones.
21. A gemstone arrangement comprising:
A center gemstones, wherein said center gemstones has four sides;
Eight round cut gemstones, wherein two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a first side of said center gemstone, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a second side of said center gemstone, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a third side of said center gemstone, two of said eight round cut gemstones abut a fourth side of said center gemstone.
22. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein said center gemstone is square cut.
23. A gemstone arrangement as in ciaim 21 , wherein each said gemstone is held in place by at least one prong setting.
24. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein each said gemstone is set in an invisible setting.
25. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein said four gemstones are at a first height and said eight round cut gemstones are at a second height,
28. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein each of said eight round cut gemstones are arranged at an angle to title towards said square.
27, A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein the height of said four gemstones and said eight round cut gemstones are within thirty percent of the same height of any of said four gemstones and said eight round cut gemstones.
28. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein said four gemstones are a first color and said eight round cut gemstones are a second color.
29. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 further comprising a mount, wherein said mount is selected from the group consisting of earrings, ring, bracelet and pendant.
30. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , further comprising a row of at least twenty round gut gemstones surrounding said eight round cut gemstones.
31. A gemstone arrangement as in claim 21 , wherein said arrangement is repeated.
