Abstract

An electric discharge tube (1) has a bulb (2), gas (6) sealed in the bulb (2), and electrodes (4A, 4B) provided in the bulb (2). The bulb (2) has first and second end portions (3B, 3A) extending in the length direction of the bulb (2) and disposed on the opposite sides along the length direction. The first end portion (3B) is immersed in liquid (7), and in this state the liquid (7) is caused to enter the bulb through the first end portion (3B), thereby forming a babble (20) of the gas (6) in the bulb (2). While maintaining the length direction of the bulb (2) horizontally, the length of the babble (20) in the length direction of the bulb (2) is measured. From the measured length, the pressure of the gas (6) in the electric discharge tube (1) is computed. With this method, the pressure of the gas (6) sealed in the bulb (2) of an electric discharge tube (1) can be simply and precisely determined.
