Abstract

A document transport assembly (210) is provided for conveying a document (10) through a document handling machine (100) along a transport plane in a transport direction. The assembly comprising a first sub-assembly (240) adapted to guide a first portion of the document and a second sub-assembly (207) adapted to simultaneously guide a second portion of the document, the first and second sub-assemblies being disposed alongside one another in a direction in the transport plane substantially perpendicular to the transport direction. At least one of the first and second sub-assemblies comprises a drive member (241A, 241B) for conveying the document in the transport direction. Each of the first and second sub-assemblies comprises support (207b, 247a, 247b, 247c, 247d) members for supporting the respective portion of the document thereon, and at least the first sub- assembly comprising urging means (248c) arranged to urge the first portion of the document towards the transport plane independently of the second sub-assembly, such that a surface of the document, spanning the first and second portions of the document, is maintained substantially flat and in the transport plane.
