Abstract

Disclosed is a thermal recording material which has excellent offset printability without deteriorating its thermal recording property. Specifically disclosed is a thermal recording material which comprises a substrate, a thermal recording layer arranged on the substrate and comprising a leuco dye and a color-developing agent, and a protective layer comprising a pigment and a binder resin as the outermost layer to be arranged on the side having the thermal recording layer, wherein the protective layer contains a water-soluble copolymer of a hydrophobic monomer and a polycarboxylic acid or a salt of the water-soluble copolymer in an amount of 0.1 to 4.8 mass% relative to the total solid content of the protective layer. The water-soluble copolymer preferably has an acid value of 200 or greater.
