Definitions
- the invention relates to a headphone comprising an ear cushion, an ear cushion mount and a speaker housing, said ear cushion and said speaker housing being coupled together by means of the ear cushion mount, said 0 ear cushion mount being formed by a frame having an outer part secured to the ear cushion and an inner part secured to the speaker housing, said inner part of the frame being provided with a hole for the positioning of the speaker housing.
- the invention relates to a set of headphones and a headset.
- US Patent No. 6,856,690 discloses a headphone, in which two paral- 0 IeI grooves are provided in the ear cushion itself.
- the one groove serves to impart a certain flexibility to the ear cushion when it is to be arranged on a user's ear.
- the other groove is intended to receive an edge of a speaker housing.
- the ear cushion must necessarily have a certain thickness, which results in a relatively large ear 5 cushion with a great spacing between a sound-generating surface and a user's ear.
- WO 96/08004 A1 describes a set of headphones having ear cushions mounted on a disc-shaped part of a speaker housing made of a rigid mate- 0 rial. A speaker is secured in the hole of the disc-shaped part.
- the drawback of this rigid structure is that the ear cushion of the headphone has a limited possibility of adapting itself to the user's ear.
- an object of the invention is to provide a headphone, where the ear cushion of the headphone is more flexible and is easily adapted to a user's ear.
- a headphone of the type defined in the introductory portion of claim 1 which is characterized in that the frame is formed completely or partly by a flexible part.
- the ear cushion may be caused to engage a user's ear in that the flexible part of the frame adapts itself to the shape of the ear.
- a high degree of flexibility is achieved, which may be dimensioned on the basis of the structure of the frame and its composition of materials.
- the ear cushion mount to the ear cushion and the speaker housing, as stated in claim 2, in that the flexible part of the frame is disposed behind a plane de- fined by the front of the speaker housing, and, as stated in claim 3, that the outer surface of the frame is secured to the inner side of the ear cushion.
- the inner part of the frame is made of a flexible material
- the outer part of the frame is made of a rigid material
- the flexible material is made of rubber
- the rigid material is made of plasties.
- the speaker housing comprises an upper part in the form of a cover, and, as stated in claim 17, that the speaker housing comprises an upper part in the form of a bowl, where the outer diameter of the bowl is smaller than the diameter of the rest of the housing, and, as stated in claim 18, that the bowl is formed completely or partly by the cover, and, as stated in claim 19, that an upper part of the speaker is disposed in the bowl of the speaker housing.
- the wall of the frame, which defines the hole in the inner part of the frame is secured in a groove in the upper part of the speaker housing, and, as stated in claim 21 , the groove in the speaker housing is provided on the outer side of the cover or of the bowl of the speaker housing, and, as stated in claim 22, the groove in the speaker housing is provided in the entire circumference of the cover or the bowl, and, as stated in claim 24, the ear cushion covers the frame and an upper part of the speaker housing, it is advantageously ensured that, since the inner part of the frame is secured behind the sound-generating surface of the speaker, the outer part of the frame and thereby the ear cushion have a great movability, and a flat structure of the headphone is achieved at the same time.
- the invention also relates to a set of headphones and a headset. These inventions are defined in claims 28 - 30.
- fig. 1 shows the headphone according to the invention in cross-section in a first embodiment
- fig. 2 shows the headphone of fig. 1 in an exploded view
- fig. 3 shows the headphone according to the invention in cross-section in a second embodiment
- fig. 4 shows a set of headphones in perspective, where two head- phones are connected via a headband.
- the numeral 1 designates an ear cushion, whose outer side consists of a textile material 3 which surrounds a foam material.
- the ear cushion 1 is secured to a speaker housing 4, which is terminated at the top by a cover 10, by means of an ear cushion mount 6, which is formed by a frame having an inner part 9 and an outer part 8, said inner part 9 being secured to the speaker housing 4, which accommodates a speaker 5.
- the frame which is preferably disc-shaped or bowl-shaped, is configured as a completely or partly flexible structure of a material such as plastics and/or rubber.
- the outer part 8 of the frame is secured to the inner side of the ear cushion 1 , while its inner part 9 is secured in a groove 7 on the outer side of the speaker housing 4.
- This structure provides an ear cushion which is very flexible, as the ear cushion mount is not positioned between the speaker and a user's ear, but as an independent unit between the speaker housing and the inner part of the ear cushion.
- the outer part 8 of the frame will naturally be able to move over a greater distance perpendicularly to the surface of the frame than the inner part 9 of the frame because of the tilting effect which is achieved by the completely or partly flexible structure.
- the ear cushion 1 may be caused to fit sealingly around a user's ear.
- Fig. 3 shows a variant of the ear cushion mount 6, where the frame 6 is formed by an inner part 6B of a flexible material and an outer part 6A of a rigid material.
- the outer part 6A may be made of plastics, and the inner part 6B be made of rubber.
- the outer part 6A is configured as a bowl or a ring having a hole, where the wall defining the hole is provided with a groove 11.
- the inner part 6B is configured as a ring having a hole, where the wall of the hole may be received in the groove 7, while the outer wall of the ring may be received in a groove 11 in the inner wall of the outer part 6A.
- the two parts of the frame may be made in one piece of the same type of material, but where the outer part 6A has a greater rigidity than the inner part 6B, which may e.g. have been caused by hardening or bending of the material in the outer part 6A.
- fig. 4 shows a complete assembled set of headphones 14, where two headphones are connected with each other via the headband 13.
- the headphones 14 may hereby form a set of stereo headphones.
- the headband 13 may be adapted to be positioned on a user's head or around the user's neck.
- the headphone may moreover be configured as a headset having one or more microphones for communications purposes.
- the shown set of headphones 14 in fig. 4 may also be provided with one or more micro- phones.
- the headset may hereby be configured as a stereo headset. Both headphone and headset can moreover communicate via a wire or via a wireless standard, e.g. Bluetooth or DECT.
