Abstract
Disclosed is a low-cost, highly productive powder for a negative electrode material for lithium ion batteries having good battery capacity. This powder for a negative electrode material for lithium ion batteries is composed of a Co-Sn-Fe alloy containing 0-10 mass% of one or more elements selected from Ti, In, C, Si and Ag and the balance of Co, Sn and Fe. This alloy has a composition wherein the mass% ratio between the sum of Fe and Co and Sn satisfies the formula (1) below and the mass% ratio between Fe and Co satisfies the formula (2) below. (Co + Fe):Sn = 5:5-1:9 (1) Co:Fe = 1:3-3:1 (2)
