Abstract

Provided are an apparatus and a method for controlling dimming. The apparatus includes a rectifier, a switching controller, a switching rectifier, and an accumulator. The rectifier rectifies an input alternating current (AC) signal to output a rectified signal. The switching controller outputs a switching control signal of which frequency and duty rate are controlled according to set dimming. The switching rectifier switches the rectified signal according to the switching control signal to output a switching rectified signal. The accumulator accumulates the switching rectified signal to output a dimming control signal. Therefore, the apparatus has simple connection lines, and thus its installation cost is saved. Also, since the apparatus is simply installed to be easily maintained and repaired, energy varying with dimming is saved, and the apparatus has a large power factor.
