Abstract

A hard disk subsystem is used as connected with an external device such as a personal computer or a server via a USB cable. A hard disk drive constituting a memory device incorporated in the hard disk subsystem performs stepwise boot control of setting a smaller number of rotations than a target number of rotations as a target value at the time of starting the power-on, then raising the number of rotations of a spindle motor, thereafter setting the target number of rotations to the target value and raising the number of rotations of the spindle motor. Thus, peak current when starting up the spindle motor is suppressed not to exceed significantly current supply capacity of a USB interface.
