Abstract

An expansion structure that, before being expanded, has a flat shape and can be placed in a narrow section and that can, when expanded from the flat shape into a three dimensional shape, effectively absorb collision energy. Also provided is an impact absorption device that, when a collision is not avoidable, causes the expansion structure placed at a colliding position to expand to thereby absorb collision energy, absorbing (easing) the impact. The expansion structure (10) has a flat shape. When a rotation section (40) of a second expansion section (16) is pushed from the rear side with a first expansion member (14) superposed on the second expansion member (16), the rotation section (40) rotates while moving and a connection beam (42) deflects due to elastic-plastic deformation. Similarly, in the expansion member (14), a connection beam (22) deflects as a rotation section (20) moves. When the rotation section (40) and the rotation section (20) move in the pressing direction up to a limit, a ratchet is locked to complete the expansion of the expansion structure (10). As a result, a three dimensional crossing structure (12) is formed, where the connection beam (22) and the connection beam (42) cross each other.
