Abstract
A navigation system comprises a current position/satellite constellation information backup section (11) for backing up information representing the current position and satellite constellation immediately before power-off, an ending time backup section (12) for backing up the time immediately before the power-off, an external time acquiring section (13) for acquiring the current time from an outside source, an elapsed time calculating section (14) for calculating the elapsed time from the backed up time immediately before the power-off to the current time, a GPS positioning section (15) for positioning the current position by using a GPS (Global Positioning System), an initial information setting section (16) for setting the initial information required to start the positioning to the GPS positioning section, and a control unit (17) for, if the elapsed time calculated by the elapsed time calculating section is smaller than a predetermined time, instructing the initial information setting section to set the information representing the current position and the satellite constellation backed up by the current position/satellite constellation information backup section to the GPS positioning section as the initial information.
