Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling a vehicle generator. In this context, the generator temperature which is sensed by means of a temperature sensor is compared with a first temperature threshold value and a second temperature threshold value. If the sensed generator temperature is higher than the first temperature threshold value but lower than the second temperature threshold value, an information signal is output to an external control unit, which initiates measures which reduce the generator temperature as a reaction to the information signal. If the sensed generator temperature is higher than the second temperature threshold value, the generator controller makes available an actuation signal for the vehicle generator, which reduces the output power of the vehicle generator.
