Abstract

Provided is a radio communication system including: a mobile station having a plurality of antennas (15d, 15e); and a base station which performs radio communication with the mobile station. When switching an antenna, the system checks a radio propagation path state so as to decide whether to switch the antenna, thereby performing an appropriate antenna switching and an optimal scheduling. The mobile station which performs a radio communication with the base station includes: a mobile station side radio unit (15) which transmits and receives a radio signal to/from the base station; and a reference signal control unit (13). When the mobile station side radio unit (15) has received from the base station an antenna switching request signal indicating a request for switching the antenna previously used for transmitting the reference signal to another antenna, the reference signal control unit (13) controls the mobile station side radio unit (15) so as to transmit only the reference signal to the base station from an antenna different from the antenna which transmitted the reference signal previously.
