Abstract

The invention relates to vehicle chassis aimed to working and moving in the woodland. Between the cabin part (1) and the load part (2) is at least two supporting means (3) which can be opened. These supports make possible moving in tight forest so that the cabin part and the load part move on different side of a tree. Applying this method we can drive even with a big machine in a tight forest. This invention is specially applied for the first harvesting of a forest.

Description

VEHICLE CHASSIS FOR MACHINES MOVING IN THE WOODLAND
The invention relates to vehicle chassis aimed to working and moving in the woodland. Applications could be periodical cutting down the trees for the purpose to thinning out and other forestry range or need to move, even with big machines, on the woodland without braking trees.
In present mechanical logging are used different types of forest machines, which fell down and cut the trees to a fixed length. The small trees of first cutting period can be chopped already in the woods with a chopper connected to the tractor. These need a path of four meter of width. The planning and the opening of the tractor paths increase costs of the forestry care and harvesting. In addition a part of good growing trees must fell down on the tractor paths. Near the broad paths the trees get more the light of sunshine and they will not drop the lower branches. So the quality of the wood goes down.
Earlier is proposed as solving of this thick forest problem a boom and a crane construction where trees selected for processing are taken with the crane over the top of trees. This method in anyway has not become general.
The aim of the present invention is to avoid the drawbacks associated with prior art solutions, and to manufacture a new kind of forest machine. The width of tractor path can be less than two meters.
With one machine is possible make the harvesting and transport the woods near to the roadside.
With the machine is possible to move if needed on the whole area of the woodland. The machine can be supplied with a comfortable cabin, which fit also to difficult weather conditions. By the same it is possible to reach to the efficiency of a big forest machine in the forest thinning. To the load part of the machine it is possible to connect a chopper. Thus the small wood, which usually is fallen down and leaves in the forest, can be used for energy purposes. A SPECIAL APPLICATION: THE FOREST MACHINE
In the following the invention is presented by accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is the application in the forest machine and in Figure 2 is presented in detail the mechanism, which connects the two machine parts together.
In the forest machine (Fig.l) is the cabin part (1) and the load part (2). Both of them have own motor engine and in the presented machine own hydraulics and electric supply means. The cabin part and the load part are connected with two stiff booms. These booms are formed of two pair of hydraulic telescope like sliding mechanism (3). The first pair is in the front and the second in the backside. Normally, the cabin part and the load part are connected together by both booms when the forest machine can be driven as usually. When driving in tight forest the machine can be driven so that the tree is between the cabin part and the load part. The first pair of booms opens when the machine drives near the tree and it is closed when the tree is passed on that point. The standing tree is thus between the pairs of the booms in the mitten of the whole machine. Next the second boom opens and the machine can be driven away from the tree. Both of the booms are closed again and the machine can be driven normally.
In the Figure 2 there is one example of mechanism by which the booms connecting the parts of the machine are locked together. The shaft of the hydraulic cylinder (1) is between two supporting pairs of sliding steel boom (2). The pair of booms is connected with locking spring levers (3) and the levers are spindled to support pieces (4) on the booms. The levers (3) lock the ends of the pairs of booms (2) to the ends of the pairs of matching booms in the second part of the machine. The ends of the booms slide partly inside each other forming a rigid construction. With pieces (6) and (7) the shaft of the cylinder (1) pushes the pair of booms (2) out. The pieces (6) open the locking levers (3) when the cylinder (1) goes back to the open position and it pulls the pair of booms (2) inside the machine.
The movement of the cylinder has, in proportion to the movement of the pair of the boom, a small space. It makes possible the opening of the locking levers. The matching pair of booms in the second part of the machine is connected to the cylinder with a piece (8) and it has no related moving space. The information transfer between the two parts of the machine can be made with mechanisms capable to opening or with remote control for example with optical or radio waves. The steering can be synchronised so that the motor and the steering of the load part follow the control signals from the cabin part.
Both of the machine parts may have own motor, hydraulics and electric system. The power transport and the electric transport can also be made through mechanic shafts in the supporting booms and with electric and hydraulic connectors in the ends of the pairs of booms.
To the supporting booms between cabin part and the load part can be mounted a mechanism which gives axial elasticity when the load in the booms goes over preset range if only one pair of booms is connected together. This mechanism prevents overloading of the booms and gears when the pressure of the load is uneven in the wheels.
