Description
SYSTEM FOR ADVERTISING SUPPLY ON INTERNET CHANNELS RELEVANTTOA PROVIDER
The present invention concerns a system for advertising supply on Internet channels relevant to a provider.
More in detail, the system according to the invention concerns a system by which, wholly independently from web contents that are present on a provider's proxy, one sends advertising contents to the user who requires web contents. Nowadays, the advertising contents on Internet are supplied on single web pages which are prepared by each service (online newspaper, or private site, or company site) and reside on a proxy relevant to a certain provider.
When the user requires a web page, the provider supplies the web page already provided with the possible advertising material, be it overlay strip or page portion.
In such a way, the same provider can not supply advertising irrespective of the required web page, if not on its own site. This entails a limitation to the services that can be furnished by the provider and therefore affects the cost of the service of the basic connection.
Although this limitation is here explained with reference to web pages, the same reasoning clearly applies for all the other web contents (for example streaming video or IPTV).
It is object of the present invention to provide a system for the supply of advertising on Internet channels relevant to a provider, which solves the problems and avoids the drawbacks of the prior art.
It is subject matter of the present invention a system for the supplying of advertising on an Internet channel relevant to a provider, comprising a web server and at least a client, characterised in that on the connection between said web server and said client, at least an advertising probe device enters, which is suitable to monitor the requests of web contents and to forward them to a central advertising unit, that is suitable to send in good time to the client, as a response to at least one
request among these, one or more advertising information and/or notices together with a script that the client executes automatically and that simulates the presence of said at least a request, said one or more advertising information and/or notices being therefore sent to said advertising central unit to the client independently from said web contents sent by the web server (20), in such a way that the sending of said one or more advertising information and/or notices is wholly transparent to the client and web server, resulting in an addition or superposition of advertising information and/or notices to the contents required by the client.
Preferably according to the invention, the system comprises a database which is accessible only to said advertising central unit and contains the rules for the generation and the sending of said one or more advertising information and/or notices. Preferably according to the invention, the system comprises several advertising probe devices placed in various sections of the network for the analysis of the traffic.
Preferably according to the invention, the advertising central unit sends said one or more advertising information and/or notices only if the client has accepted the service beforehand.
Preferably according to the invention, the advertising central unit determines randomly which of said requests of web contents to enter.
Preferably according to the invention, the advertising central unit determines which of said requests of web contents to enter on the basis of the kind of the requested web contents.
Preferably according to the invention, said one or more advertising information and/or notices are sent as pop-up.
Preferably according to the invention, said one or more advertising information and/or notices are sent a certain time before the showing, for example display, of the web content requested by the client.
The invention will be now described by way of illustration but not by way of limitation making reference to the drawings of the enclosed figures, wherein:
- figure 1 shows a general scheme of the system according to the invention;
- figure 2 shows a general scheme of the probe included in the system according to figure 1.
Making reference to figure 1 , according to the system of the present invention, a central advertising unit 30 enters a communication 100 between client 10 and server 20. The data traffic is caught by an advertising probe device or briefly "probe" 30 which, on the basis of the advertising data 31 and rules, adds to the same traffic (for example web page or streaming video) the advertising content.
In such a way, the advertising supply process is wholly transparent to the user (client 10) and to the server (server proxy 20), and can occur without modifying originally the web pages. Therefore one can vary dynamically the destination and the advertising content depending on the type of sought advertising campaign.
The transparency of this type is present in the prior art only in the field of cryptography, with the method so-called " man in the middle".
In order to realise such transparency, it is necessary to catch and process the data with enough speed, as well as to send to the client the further (advertising) contents in the form of course of web contents.
This of course is possible because such sending of further contents is actually required by the client in an automatic way.
Indeed, once an originary request of the client 10 has been caught, the advertising unit 30 sends to the client, as response to said request, a series of advertising contents together with a script which simulates the original request to the web server. In figure 2 a mode of parallel utilisation of the probes is shown: the probes 30', 30", 30'" are placed in the various sections of the network in such a way that they are able to analyse all the traffic while the central advertising unit 32 manages the information coming from analysis.
In an application version of the system according to the invention, the requests of the client 10 are caught by the probes
30',30",3O1" and the advertising unit, which determines randomly which requests will have a response, associates to it independent advertising material.
In another application version of the system according to the invention, such determination is instead realised on the basis of the subdivision into thematic groups of the web contents corresponding to said monitored requests. The system according to the invention manages a database inside which the following information are stored:
- rules: list of the target PC (identified on the basis of its own IP address) and relevant configurations of advertising sending (how, how much and which advertising to be sent); - advertising URL: list of the websites to be sent as
"advertising pages";
- target URL: list of the websites by the navigation of which the choice of the advertising to be sent occurs;
- general information of sending of the advertising URL. As mentioned, three different advertising sending modes are possible:
- random sending mode;
- groups sending mode;
- categories sending mode. With the random sending mode, the configured advertising URL selected from the database of the URL are sent to the target PC when the frequency specified for the rule under management is reached.
In the groups sending mode, only certain advertising URL, selected from those configured in the database and subdivided exactly into groups, are sent to the target PC; for example, the group "programming" can be configured, in such a way that inside the programming group all the advertising URL concerning the programming will be inserted. These URL are sent to the target PC cyclically.
In the categories sending mode, one can specify a series of URLs (web pages) on which the target PC can navigate, by subdividing these URLs into categories, for example support, politics, medicine. Moreover, one can link to each single category a series of advertising
URLs so as to show such advertising when the target PC navigates on one of the URLs of the configured categories.
For example, the technical modes of advertising sending can be two: the pop-tip, in which the advertising page is presented to the target PC (client) as a pop-up window; and the replace mode, in which advertising page is shown for some seconds in place of that required by the user.
Thanks to the system according to the present invention, one can therefore add advertising contents or information to the web pages downloaded by a client, without that the last reveals an intermediate step and without the necessity of providing the advertising directly on each pages at the web server level, what allows the advertising sending by the provider independently from the suppliers of the single contents.
The preferred embodiments have been above described and some modifications of this invention have been suggested, but it should be understood that those skilled in the art can make variations and changes, without so departing from the related scope of protection, as defined by the following claims.
