Abstract
Provided is a display device which can display a high-quality dynamic image and improve color purity. Also provided is an illumination device used in the display device. The display device includes: an illumination device (3) having a first light source (31G) for emitting a first color and a second light source (31RB) for emitting a second color as the complementary color of the first color; a gate driver (24) which successively selects respective scan lines (GL) at 0.5-frame cycle; a data driver (23) which writes a data signal into the first color pixel during the first half of one-frame period and writes a data signal into the second color pixel during the latter half of the one-frame period; and a switch circuit (26) which turns ON the first light source (31G) and turns OFF the second light source (31RB) during the first half of the one-frame period and turns ON the second light source (31RB) and turns OFF the first light source (31G) during the latter half of the period.
