Abstract

The present invention is directed to a method of reducing light leakage that is due to thermal shrinkage of an extended polarizer film affixed to a longer than 19-inch diagonal TN mode large size display device and that occurs in the form of an arc at a frame portion of the large size display device. An adhesive affixes the extended polarizer film so that a ratio (W/L) is not larger than 0.1, wherein the ratio (W/L) is the maximum value (W) from each frame of the light leakage arch that occurrs at each frame of the large size display device to a length (L) of a long side of the large size display device. The adhesive is given the strength to cope with the shrinkage of the extended polarizer film. A side chain is introduced into a carbon hydride main chain of the adhesive so that the brightness (X) is not larger than 4cd/m2 at the time when the light leakage portion formed in the form of the arch at the frame of the large size display device becomes dark and, further, so that a ratio (X/Y) of the brightness (X) to the brightness (Y) at the time when a light non-leakage portion becomes dark is not larger than 20. According to the invention, light leakage that occurs in the form of an arc at a frame portion of a large size display device can be made small and a difference in brightness between the light leakage portion and a polarizer disposed portion becomes small even at a dark time, so that the light leakage portion becomes less conspicuous.
