Description

Description SOCKET OF IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE FOR HDMI
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a socket of an image display device for a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI), and more particularly, to a socket of an image display device for an HDMI, which includes a terminal housing stably fixed to a metallic metal shell. Background Art
[2] As digital home appliances including digital TVs, LCD monitors, PDPs become widespread, application of digital interfaces, e.g., IEEE 1394 or USB available for digital data communications with peripherals is being increased.
[3] Specifically, a digital video interface (DVI) technology, designed for transmitting a high-band uncompressed video signal in digital mode, is widely used. The DVI technology is a standard developed by a digital display working group (DDWG) to allow an analog video signal and a digital video signal to be used in a single socket.
[4] Since the DVI technology supports only digital video signals, the DVI technology is lacking in supporting digital audio signals. Also, the size of a socket for the DVI technology is too large. Thus, a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) standard is recently developed to transmit digital video signals and digital audio signals at a single digital interface having a bandwidth of 5 Gbps or more.
[5] The HDMI standard, as the next digital interface, can support high definition video signals and high definition audio signals, and a socket for the HDMI standard has a low cable count and a small size to be convenient to use.
[6] A socket applied for the HDMI standard typically includes a metallic metal shell, a terminal housing inserted into the metal shell, and terminals fixed to the terminal housing. The terminal housing of the socket should be stably coupled to the metal shell to prevent the movement of the socket while mounting or using the socket.
[7] However, in the related art socket applied for the HDMI standard, the terminal housing is not stably coupled to the metal shell. Thus, when the socket is fixed to a substrate or bracket, or when an external input/output cord is repeatedly connected to the socket, the terminal housing is moved to cause defective connection. Disclosure of Invention

[22] Hereinafter, a socket of an image display device for an HDMI according to embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail. [23] Referring to FIGs. 1 through 4, according to the embodiments of the present invention, a socket(l) of an image display device for an HDMI includes a metallic metal shell(lθ), a terminal housing(20) coupled to the metal shell(lθ), and terminals(30) and (31) fixed to the terminal housing(20).
[24] The metal shell(lθ) has open front and rear portions to allow a terminal-fixing portion(22) of the terminal housing(20), that will be described later, to be inserted th rough a rear end thereof and allow an external input/output cord (not shown) to be inserted through a front end thereof. The metal shell(lθ) has an upper end that is longer in a rear direction than a lower end thereof.
[25] A bottom of the metal shell(lθ) seats on a seating surface(21) provided in a front end of the terminal housing(20) when coupled to the terminal housing(20), and both sides of the bottom are inclined to match with the shape of the external input/output cord. Also, inclined surfaces are provided to both sides of the seating surface(21).
[26] As such, the both sides of the bottom of the metal shell(lθ) have inclined surfaces to prevent the external input/output cord from being defectively inserted.
[27] Push plates(l 1) and (12) having an elastic force are in a top and the bottom of the metal shell(lθ), to press a top and a bottom of the external input/output cord when the external input/output cord is inserted through the front end of the metal shell(lθ). Thus, the external input/output cord is stably inserted and fixed within the metal shell(lθ).
[28] Since the external input/output cord is stably fixed within the metal shell(lθ) by the push plates(l 1) and (12), terminals(30) and (31), fixed to a fitting portion(23) of the terminal housing(20) that will be described later, are also stably connected to the external input/output cord.
[29] The top of the metal shell(lθ) includes release-prevention portions(13) respectively extending from both sides of a rear end thereof. After terminal-fixing portion(22) of the terminal housing(20), that will be described later, is completely inserted in the metal shell(lθ), the release-prevention portions(13) bend downward to prevent rearward release of the terminal housing(20).
[30] Solder pin portions (14) to be fixed to a substrate or bracket, are disposed on the both sides of the metal shell(lθ), respectively.
[31] The solder pin portions(14) each includes a first solder pin(141), an extension(142), and a second solder pin(143). The first solder pin(141) vertically extends downward from rear ends of the both sides of the metal shell(lθ). The extension(142) extends from a rear end of the first solder pin(141) and bends forward to overlap an outer surface of the first solder pin(141). The second solder pin(143) vertically extends downward from a front end of the extension(142).
[32] A bent fixing hook(144) is provided to a front upper end of the extension(142). When the terminal-fixing portion(22) of the terminal housing(20) is inserted and fixed through the rear end of the metal shell(lθ), the bent fixing hook(144) is inserted into a fitting hole(25) of the terminal housing(20) that will be described layer and stably fixes the terminal housing(20) to the metal shell(lθ).
[33] The fixing hooks(144) extend from the front upper end of the extension(142), and the fixing hooks (144) each includes a penetrating portion 144a and an engaging portion(144b). The penetrating portions (144a) bend toward each other on the both sides of the metal shell(lθ) and penetrate through the fitting holes(25). The engaging portion(144b) bends downward from a front end of the penetrating portion(144a) and engages with an inner surface of the fitting hole(25).
[34] As described above, the fixing hook(144) is fitted into the fitting hole(25) of the terminal housing(20) to prevent the terminal housing(20) from laterally or horizontally moving against the metal shell(lθ), and thus to prevent defective connection between the socket of the present invention and the external input/output cord due to repeated coupling of the external input/output cord.
[35] The terminal housing(20) is coupled through the rear end of the metal shell(lθ), and the terminals(30) and (31) are fixed to the terminal housing(20). An upper portion of the terminal housing(20) is inserted in the metal shell(lθ), and a lower portion of the terminal housing(20) is disposed below the metal shell(lθ).
[36] The seating surface(21) receiving the metal shell(lθ) is disposed on a front upper surface of the terminal housing(20). The terminal-fixing portion(22) is disposed in a rear upper portion of the terminal housing(20) behind the seating surface(21). The terminal-fixing portion(22) is inserted into the rear end of the metal shell(lθ), and the terminals(30) and (31) are penetrated and fixed into the terminal-fixing portion(22).
[37] The fitting portion(23), to be fitted into the external input/output cord, horizontally extends from a front surface of the terminal-fixing portion(22).
[38] Terminal-inserting grooves(23a) and (23b) receiving connecting portions of the terminals(30) and (31) are disposed in a top and a bottom of the fitting portion(23), respectively. The terminal-inserting grooves(23a) and (23b) are opened upward and downward, respectively, so that the terminals (30) and (31) are exposed upward and downward.
[39] Thus, when the fitting portion(23) is fitted into the external input/output cord, the connecting portions of the terminals (30) and (31) are also inserted into the external input/output cord to be electrically connected to terminals of the external input/output cord.
[40] The fitting portion(23) is vertically spaced a predetermined distance from the seating surface(21). Insertion holes(24), receiving a rear end of the bottom of the metal shell(lθ) when the terminal housing(20) is coupled to the metal shell(lθ), are disposed at the same height as the seating surface(21) below the fitting portion(23).
[41] The fitting holes(25) are disposed in a longitudinal direction on front both sides of the terminal housing(20) to receive the fixing hooks(144) when the terminal housing(20) is coupled to the metal shell(lθ).
[42] A fixing protrusion(26), penetrating through a substrate or bracket to fix the socket(l) of the present invention, protrudes from a bottom of the terminal housing(20).
[43] When the socket of the present invention is coupled to the external input/output cord, the terminals (30) and (31) are connected to the terminals of the external input/output cord to receive and send signals. The terminals(30) and (31) are arranged in upper and lower lines. The terminals (30) in the upper line penetrates through the terminal-fixing portion(22) and inserted into the top of the fitting portion(23). The terminals(31) in the lower line penetrates through the terminal-fixing portion(22) and inserted into the bottom of the fitting portion(23). Lower ends of the terminals(30) and (31) are soldered to the substrate.
[44] Although the socket of the image display device for an HDMI according to the embodiments has been described with reference to the accompanying drawings, it is not limited thereto. Therefore, various modifications and changes can be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention defined by the appended claims. Industrial Applicability
[45] As described above, in the socket of the image display device for an HDMI according to the present invention, the fitting holes are disposed on the both sides of the terminal housing, respectively, and the fixing hooks, inserted into the fitting holes when the metal shell is coupled to the terminal housing, are disposed on the both ends of the metal shell.
