[1] The present invention relates to a multimedia player device for testing of screen and method for operating thereof, and more particularly method for testing of screen in the display device by transforming or editing multimedia source data such as video, image and audio into a number of formats in order to be outputted on the screen of the display device so that the integrated test can be done regardless of the format of display device, and the present invention is portable so that the cost and time for maintenance of the display device can be reduced. Background Art
[2] In general, the source data for testing of screen in the display device consists of still picture signal such as image, video signal, and audio signal. The video signal generator and DVD(Digital Video Disk) are well known screen test for display device which uses A/V source(Audio and Video source) of video and audio signals.
[3] FIG 1, illustrates the block diagram of state of the art of display screen test device using A/V source data.
[4] As illustrated in FIG 1, a display screen test device (10) consists of DVD (11), video signal generator (12), and TV/D-TV (13). The DVD (11) transmits digital video signal and audio signal to TV/D-TV (13), and the video signal generator (12) transmits audio signal and still image signal such as image to the TV/D-TV(13). The TV/D-TV (13) receives the digital video signal, audio signal, and still image signal from DVD (11) and video signal generator (12) and displays them on the screen. In the display screen test device (10) of state of the art, the screen displayed in TV/D-TV (13) is evaluated for standard inspection using A/V source data(digital video signal and audio signal) transmitted from the DVD (11) with the naked eye or device for inspection to confirm the screen of the display device is valid. Further, the screen of the display device is tested using A/V source data(still picture signal and audio signal) transmitted from the video signal generator (12) with the same method.
[5] When the screen is tested using the display screen test device (10) of state of the art, the DVD title and DVD players need to be changed depends on the resolution and transmission method( American Standard or European Standard). Furthermore, in case of HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) signal, the display screen test device (10) cannot display the media in Full HD(1080P) level, and audio signal is not outputted when the EDID data in monitor and TV with HDMI support is corrupted so that the output mode is automatically recognized as DVI(Digital Visual Interface) mode. Because the storage capacity is low and processing time is slow in the display screen test device (10) for testing high resolution, mass storage of A/V source data and the data transformation technology for applying a number of transmission format is not applicable, there are a number of limitations to effectively test and evaluate the visual and audio impairments in the display device in a variety of A/V environment.
[6] Generally speaking, the staff for maintenance or the consumer has to carry the display device to the store or manufacturer when the display device needs to be repaired because the display screen test device, which is mounted in the rack device, is not portable to carry. However, the display device such as TV is mounted on the wall or heavy to carry so that a number of workforce and time is required to carry the display device. [32] FIG 2 illustrates the block diagram of a multimedia player device for testing of screen for a display device of the present invention.
[33] As illustrated in FIG 2, a multimedia player device (100) for testing of screen for the display device of the present invention includes an input unit (110), a process unit (120), an output unit (130) and an input/output unit (140), and the source data is transformed at a process unit (120) in order to be corresponded with resolution configuration condition of an input unit (110) and transformed source data is outputted to a display device (200) through an output unit (130) in a number of formats. In the process unit (120), source data that satisfies the standard of screen test is stored, and in an input/output unit (140), the external PC (300) is connected and initial menu value and source data stored in process unit (120) is updated through PC (300). In the multimedia player device (100) for testing of screen for a display device of the present invention, the screen test can be done on all HDMI transmission standard support display device (200, DPD) among one or equivalent device of CRT, LCD, PDP, and D-TV/HDTV, and the display device (200) can be tested using source data with a number of output formats.
[34] HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface) is one of the non-compressed, digital video/audio interfaces. In HDMI, DVI, the interface standard between PC and display, is transformed in home A/V. Because video and audio is not compressed and transmitted from the player to TV in HDMI, the devices can be recognized one another once they are connected without decoder or separate software installation. Furthermore, wiring of AV devices can be simplified because multimedia data is transmitted in form of single cable of video, audio, and control signals, and each AV device can be used in articulated manner. However, DVI(Digital Video/Visual Interactive) is a standard visual interface and is optimized at resolution of digital display devices such as computer display like flat panel LCD monitor and digital projector. DVI is designed to transmit uncompressed digital visual data to the display by DDWG(Digital Display Working Group).
[35] In the input unit (110), initial menu value stored in memory(ROM) of process unit
(120) is pulled out by user request and test and resolution configuration condition for screen test is inputted. The initial menu value pulled out from the input unit (110) is displayed on a mini display(not illustrated) built in the multimedia player device (100). In the initial menu value, EDID of display device (200), which is Hot Plug Detected through HDMI terminal of the output unit (130), is also displayed on the mini display so that target display device (200) for test can be easily confirmed. A user controls input unit (110) to confirm the initial menu value displayed in the mini display (not illustrated) and inputs test and resolution configuration condition. The input unit (110) can be one or more of key attached in front of the multimedia player device (100), remote controller, infrared rays, mouse, or keyboard. The screen configuration condition of the input unit (110) includes output mode(CVBS, D-TV, HDMI, TIME) select, format mode(NTSC, PAL, DVB, ATSC) select, audio use con- figuration(ON/OFF), HDCP function test configuration in HDMI mode, screen ratio(4:3, 16:9) configuration, scan test configuration, and EDID test configuration.
[36] EDID(Extended Display Identification Data) is information data of the display device such as monitor. In EDID, basic display variables and characteristic such as vendor/manufacturer ID, HDMI, HDCP support, and resolution are defined. EDID information is recorded in internal Micom during the manufacturing process so that when a user turns on the source device such as PC, specification information is transmitted to the source device throughout the communication in order to find out appropriate signal to display the data. HDCP(High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a copyright protection standard for preventing from the reproduction, and is one of copyright protection technology to prevent from copying digital content unlawfully by encrypting the path of transmitting digital signal from multimedia player device.
[37] In the process unit (120), initial menu value for resolution test and source data for standard inspection of resolution test are stored, and HDMI authentication is processed by checking display device (200) connected through HDMI connector. In particular, the process unit (120) consists of memory (ROM/RAM), hard disk drive(HDD) and CPU. In memory (ROM/RAM), initial menu value for screen test is stored. In initial menu value, EDID, HDCP support functions of the display device (200), which completely controls output condition of the source data, and resolution configuration condition are recorded. In hard disk drive, source data, which becomes reference for standard inspection, is stored. However, the source data stored in hard disk drive(HDD) can be upgraded through PC (300), which is connected to the input/output unit (140). In CPU, HDMI authentication is processed by checking EDID transmitted from the display device (200), and the source data from hard disk drive(HDD) is pulled out and transformed and edited based on resolution configuration condition in the input device (110).
[38] According to the present invention, the output of source data is determined by the process unit (120) in CPU based on EDID test (On/Off) configuration and header value(8Bytes) of EDID transmitted from the display device (200). First, in case that EDID test of the input unit (110) is set on and EDID header is corrupted, EDID is not recognized by the multimedia player device (100) and source data is not outputted. However, in case that EDID test of the input unit (110) is set on but EDID header is not corrupted, data in video block(128Bytes) and audio block(128Bytes) after header value is checked. In case that data in both video block and audio block is not corrupted, EDID is recognized as normal and format of the source data and infoframe such as frequency are configured in accordance with characteristic of the display device (200) through EDID data. However, in case that data in video block is corrupted or data in both blocks is corrupted, EDID is not recognized by the multimedia player device (100) and source data is not outputted. Further, in case that data in audio block is corrupted, source data is recognized as DVI mode. EDID test in the input unit (110) is set off, source data is not outputted by CPU regardless of EDID data.
[39] Further, according to the present invention, in case that HDCP functional test is set on, HDCP function can be tested by CPU in the process unit (120) as follow. CPU enables output of data source(audioMdeo) if key value(5 Byte) detected by parsing audio and video data from inputted EDID to the display device and key value returned from the display device (200) are identical. While the multimedia player device (100) is running, HDCP function can be tested in 2 second interval by CPU to confirm that HDCP function of the display device (200) is operated in normal. However, in case that HDCP is not supported in inputted data of EDID, the key value created by the process unit (120) it is used as same method described above to confirm HDCP function. If HDCP function test(0n/0ff) is set off, HDCP test is not operated in CPU.
[40] The source data transformed and edited by the process unit (120) is outputted at the output unit (130) based on test of the input unit (110) and resolution configuration condition. That is, in the output unit (130), source data including internal converter is transformed based on output format and outputted in form of desired format through one or more terminals from CVBS, S-Video, Y Pb Pr, Optical, HDMI, Audio, DVI, D- Sub, or D-Terminal to the display device (200).
[41] The input/output unit (140) is connected to PC (300) and the process unit and the
PC(300) are formed to send and receive control signal from the input/output unit. That is, input/output unit (140) includes one or more connectors from USB, Ethernet and RS-232C for being connected to PC (300). According to the present invention, it is possible to change and edit resolution configuration condition and output condition for resolution test between PC (300) and the process unit (120) through the input/output unit (140). Further, it is also possible to change and edit source data for screen test of the display device (200) through PC (300) connected with the input/output (140).
[42] According to the present invention, by outputting multimedia source data such as video, image and audio transformed or edited in a variety of format to the display device (200) in order to be accorded with test configuration condition for screen test through the input unit (110), screen test can be done using one multimedia player device (100) regardless of output mode(CVBS, D-TV, HDMI, TIME) and format mode(NTSC, PAL, DVB, ATSC) and consequently, cost and time for screen test can be reduced. Further, because output mode of the source data is determined depends on On/Off configuration mode of EDID and HDCP functions in the display device (200) with HDMI transmission standard support, not only HDMI standard is satisfied but also test can be done regardless of EDID and HDCP functions, and consequently, a variety of test can be provided.
[43] Moreover, because the multimedia player device (100) of the present invention includes source data internally and can be controlled without PC(300), it is portable to carry in any time. Therefore, in case that the display device (200) is to be repaired, realtime screen test can be done in the field. That is, the display device (200) such as large size of TV and wall mounted TV do not have to be carried to the store or manufacturer so that cost and time for the maintenance can be reduce. Furthermore, in case that configuration condition for source data and screen test is changed, the multimedia player device (100) can be updated through the input/output unit (140) by connecting PC (300) and the process unit (120).
[44] FIG 3 illustrates the flow chart of operating method for a multimedia player device (100) of the present invention.
[45] As illustrated in FIG 3, a method for operating a multimedia player device (100) includes the steps a test condition configuring (Sl 10), a source data selecting (S 120), a source data transforming (S 130), and a source data outputting (S 140).

[47] The step of the source data selecting (S 120) is the step for selecting source data for screen test i in hard disk drive(HDD) of the process unit (120). The source data can be pulled out automatically in order of stored in hard disk drive or can be selected by control signal from the input unit (110) or PC (300).
[48] The step of the source data transforming (S 130) is the step for transforming source data to make sure that CPU of the process unit (120) is accorded with configuration condition selected from the input unit (110). Transformed source data is transmitted to the display device (200) through the output unit (130) having output terminals such as CVBS, S-Video, Y Pb Pr, Optical, HDMI, Audio, DVI, D-Sub, and D-Terminal.
[49] The step of the source data outputting (S 140) is the step for outputting transformed source data to the display device (200) through the output unit (130). The output unit (130) is designed to output source data, which is transformed in the format to be accorded with configuration condition of the input unit (110), to the display device (200). Therefore, transformed and edited source data can be displayed in the display device (200) through the multimedia player device (100) so that the user can test the resolution of the display device (200). Furthermore, the multimedia player device (100) for screen test can form a variety of output mode(CVBS, D-TV, HDMI, TIME) and format mode(NTSC, PAL, DVB, ATSC) for each display device, and consequently, it can be useful for test for comparing resolution of multiple screens.
