Abstract

A toripod-type constant-velocity universal joint reduced in resistance in revolution, less in resistance in induced thrust and sliding movement, lowered in shuddering caused in a vehicle and vibration in idling, and further getting diminished in number of required component and parts and designed at low cost. The toripod-type constant-velocity universal joint has an outside joint member (1) made with three track grooves (5), a toripod member (2) having three legs (8) extending radially, and rollers (3) fitting over the legs (8) for rotation through needles (15). An outside circular surface (11a) of each leg (8) is made convex to allow the associated roller (3) tilting on the leg (8) in rocking manner. On any one of lengthwise surfaces opposing to each other circumferentially of each track groove (5), there is cut a lengthwise recess (18) to fit over a radially outer portion (17) around the roller (3). Of surfaces opposite to each other circumferentially across the roller, the surface inside the recess (18) provides a guide surface (6A) for the roller to come into rolling contact with the roller while another surface inside the track groove (5) provides another guide surface (6B) for the roller.
