Abstract

 パターンド媒体に形成された各ドット上にヘッドを高精度に位置決めすることを可能にし、しかも高い記録密度を実現し得るパターンド媒体を提供する。パターンド媒体は、ベース基板と、前記ベース基板上に所定のデータトラックに沿って規則的に配列して形成された記録材料からなる複数のドットと、前記ドットを物理的に互いに孤立させる分離領域とを有する。前記ドットは、前記データトラックにおいて所定周期毎に少なくとも1つのドットが欠落するスペース領域を除いて前記所定周期よりも微細な一定周期で形成され、前記各スペース領域の長さは前記ドットの一定周期に対応する一定長である。
