Abstract

A communication method is provided which comprises the steps of receiving a signal from a base station (61); and communicating, in response to the reception of the signal, with the base station by use of a first communication range that is available because of a control based on the signal from the base station, while communicating with a different mobile station, with the base station not intervening, by use of a second communication range that is available independently of the control based on the signal from the base station. As a result, a vehicle-to-vehicle communication can be always performed without any interruptions during moving between areas. An alternative communication method is provided wherein a base station (61) sequentially assigns, to a mobile station, time slots starting with that one of successive time slots which includes a section where a carrier sense (CS) is performed, and when the mobile station uses the carrier sense to determine an empty, it performs a mobile station-to-mobile station communication by use of the successive time slots. Thus, empties in control area time slots can be determined.
