Abstract

A collapsible carton (100) comprising an inner rectangular box (10) open on one side, and formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate (12) and four first peripheral plates '(14) respectively extending from and being hinged to the four sides of the bottom plate (12). Each of the first peripheral plates (14) can pivot from a position in which each of the first peripheral plates (14) is adjacent to and parallel with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12) to a position in which each of the first peripheral plates (14) is perpendicular with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12); an outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) formed of four upright walls (22) which are hinged to one another for positioning around the outer circumference of the first peripheral plates (14) to sustain them in the erected position; and a closure portion plate (30) hingedly connected to the bottom plate (12). wherein the closure portion plate (30) is dimensioned to wrap around and enclosure the inner rectangular box (10) and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20).

Description

A COLLAPSIBLE CARTON
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a collapsible carton which used for several different purposes. More particularly, it relates to the carton which is capable to form from a first collapsed state to a second upright state in the shape of cuboid or right rectangular prism.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It has been seen that the global business is moving towards a state where different pieces of a product are made in different countries and then assembled together at a final destination for sale. Therefore, packaging and transportation of such pieces has become a very important factor at business.
Transportation of good still remains a serious problem especially where good are huge in size and take up lot of space. Boxes form a important part of the product and packaging and several companies get boxes manufactured at different places and them get them transported to the location of their choice. However, these boxes take up a huge place while transport and most of the space goes waste, as boxes are actually empty. This leads to a high transportation cost and not a large boxes can be transported in same instance due to limited space on most carriers.
The problem to be solved is to store and/or transport a higher number of boxes in the same instance and the problem is solved by providing a collapsible carton box comprising an inner cubical frame formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate and four first side plates each hingedly attached at one margin of the bottom plate; an outer cubical frame formed of four upright walls which fixedly connected to one another; and a rectangular planar shell plate hingedly attached at one end of the bottom plate, wherein the outer cubical frame is mounted securely around the outer circumference of the upright side plates to sustain the upright side plates in the second upright position and the planar shell plate is adapted to wrap around the outer cubical frame and subsequently form the carton box. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is a primary object of this invention to provide a carton in the shape of cuboid or right rectangular prism for carrying goods and is collapsible for easy storage.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a collapsible carton for storing goods comprising an inner rectangular box open on one side, and formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate and four first peripheral plates respectively extending from and being hinged to the four sides of the bottom plate, wherein each of the first peripheral plates is adapted to pivot from a first collapsed position in which each of the first peripheral plates is adjacent to and substantially parallel with respect to the plane of the bottom plate to a second erected position in which each of the first peripheral plates is substantially perpendicular with respect to the plane of the bottom plate; an outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion formed of four upright walls which are hinged to one another for positioning around the outer circumference of the first peripheral plates to sustain them in the erected position; and a closure portion plate hingedty connected to the bottom plate, wherein the closure portion plate is dimensioned to wrap around and enclosure the inner rectangular box and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a closure portion plate comprises a base plate; a second peripheral plate having one end connected to one end of the base plate foldedly; a cover plate having one end connected to another end of the second peripheral plate foldedly; and a buckle plate having one end connected to another end of the cover plate foldedly.
It is another object of the present invention to provide at least one engagement means which is attached on the exterior surface of the first peripheral plates for affixing the interior surface of the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion fixedly to the exterior surface of the inner rectangular box. It is another object of the present invention to provide aa locking arrangement which is disposed at the closure portion plate and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion for fixedly locking the closure portion plate to the exterior surface of the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion.
The present invention consists of certain novel features and a combination of parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the appended claims; it being understood that various changes in the details may be made without departing from the scope of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages of the present invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an inner rectangular box formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate and four first peripheral plates respectively extending from and being hinged to the four sides of the bottom plate of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of an inner rectangular box formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate and four first peripheral plates respectively extending from and being hinged to the four sides of the bottom plate and a closure portion plate hingedly connected to the bottom plate in an collapsed state of the present invention.
Figure 3 shows the step of positioning around the outer circumference of the first peripheral plates to sustain them in the erected position of the present invention.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the closure portion plate (30) is dimensioned to wrap around and enclosure the inner rectangular box (10) and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20). DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring now to the Figure 1, an outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) formed of four upright walls (22) which are hinged to one another. The outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) may be made of cardboard, paperboard or other suitable material such as plastic or metal. The outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) can be pivoted from a first upright position to a second erected position or vice versa. Each of the joints between the upright walls (22) is twisted by user's hand and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) is folded so as to the two upright walls (22) overlap the planar of another two upright walls (22) in a flat condition.
Referring now to the Figure 2, a closure portion plate (30) hingedly attached at one end of the bottom plate (12), wherein the closure portion plate (30) comprises a base plate (32); a second peripheral plate (34) having one end connected to one end of the base plate (32) foldedly; a cover plate (36) having one end connected to another end of the second peripheral plate (34) foldedly; and a buckle plate (38) having one end connected to another end of the cover plate (36) foldedly.
The closure portion plate (30) may be made of cardboard, paperboard or other suitable material such as plastic or metal. Furthermore, an inner rectangular box (10) open on one side, and formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate (12) and four first peripheral plates (14) respectively extending from and being hinged to the four sides of the bottom plate (12), wherein each of the first peripheral plates (14) is adapted to pivot from a first collapsed position in which each of the first peripheral plates (14) is adjacent to and substantially parallel with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12) to a second erected position in which each of the first peripheral plates (14) is substantially perpendicular with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12). The inner rectangular box (10) may be made of thick paper or other suitable material such as plastic. In the first collapsed position, the bottom plate (12) and four first peripheral plates (14) occupy less space compare to the second erected position. In the first collapsed position, the four first peripheral plates (14) is folded inwardly and parallel - S -
with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12) in a flat condition. A locking arrangement (24) which is disposed at the closure portion plate (30) and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) for fixedly locking the closure portion plate (30) to the exterior surface of the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) when the closure portion plate (30) wrapped around and enclosed the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20).
Figure 3 shows the step of placing the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) positioning around the outer circumference of the first peripheral plates (14) to sustain them in the erected position of the present invention. At least one engagement means (16) which is attached on the exterior surface of the first peripheral plates (14) for affixing the interior surface of the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) fixedly to the exterior surface of the inner rectangular box (10). The engagement means (16) preferably is adhesive tape. The outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) being of a relatively hard material such as cardboard provides requisite strength and support to the four first peripheral plates (14) of the inner rectangular box (10) which are of relatively weal material such as thick paper. In another embodiment of the present invention, one side of the upright walls is fixedly attached to one side of the first peripheral plates (14). The outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) may be engaged with the inner rectangular box (10) wherein interior surface of one of the upright walls (22) is affixed to a corresponding exterior surface of one of the first peripheral plates (14). When in the collapsed state, all the parts of the collapsed box are still engaged together and can be easily constructed to the erected position in a shorten time.
Figure 4 shows a perspective view of the closure portion plate (30) is dimensioned to wrap around and enclosure the inner rectangular box (10) and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) and subsequently form the carton box. The base plate (32) serve as a base of the carton box and is generally equivalent or bigger in size than the rectangular planar bottom plate (12). Preferably, the base plate (32) and the rectangular planar bottom plate (12) are adhered together to provide a stronger base. The heights of the first peripheral plate (14). the second peripheral plate (34) and the upright wall (22) correspond with one another. The cover plate (36) serve as a cover of the opening of the carton box and is generally equivalent or bigger in size than the rectangular planar bottom plate (12). The second peripheral plate (34) and the buckle plate (38) is overlapped and adjacent to the corresponding first peripheral plate (14) when the carton box is formed.

Accordingly, the scope of the invention should be defined only in accordance with the claims that follow. In the following claims, reference characters used to designate claim steps are provided for convenience of description only, and are not intended to imply any particular order for performing the steps.

Claims

1. A collapsible carton (100) for storing goods comprising: an inner rectangular box (10) open on one side, and formed of a rectangular planar bottom plate (12) and four first peripheral plates (14) respectively extending from and being hinged to the four sides of the bottom plate (12), wherein each of the first peripheral plates (14) is adapted to pivot from a first collapsed position in which each of the first peripheral plates (14) is adjacent to and substantially parallel with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12) to a second erected position in which each of the first peripheral plates (14) is substantially perpendicular with respect to the plane of the bottom plate (12); an outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) formed of four upright walls (22) which are hinged to one another for positioning around the outer circumference of the first peripheral plates (14) to sustain them in the erected position; and a closure portion plate (30) hingedly connected to the bottom plate (12), wherein the closure portion plate (30) is dimensioned to wrap around and enclosure the inner rectangular box (10) and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20).
2. The collapsible carton (100) according to claim 1, wherein the closure portion plate (30) comprises: a base plate (32); a second peripheral plate (34) having one end connected to one end of the base plate
(32) foldedly; a cover plate (36) having one end connected to another end of the second peripheral plate (34) foldedly; and a buckle plate (38) having one end connected to another end of the cover plate (36) foldedly.
3. The collapsible carton (100) according to claim 2, wherein one side of the upright walls is fixedly attached to one side of the first peripheral plates (14).
4. The collapsible carton (100) according to claim 2, further comprising at least one engagement means (16) which is attached on the exterior surface of the first peripheral plates (14) for affixing the interior surface of the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) fixedly to the exterior surface of the inner rectangular box (10).

The collapsible carton (100) according to claim 2, further comprising a locking arrangement (24) which is disposed at the closure portion plate (30) and the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) for fixedly locking the closure portion plate (30) to the exterior surface of the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20) when the closure portion plate (30) wrapped around and enclosed the outer collapsible rectangular supporting portion (20).
6. The collapsible carton box (100) according to claim 4, wherein the engagement means is adhesive tape.
7. The collapsible carton box (100) according to claim 5, wherein the locking arrangement is a pair of magnets, a magnet and a metal, hooks, buttons or any interlocking means.
8. The collapsible carton box (100) according to claim 2, wherein the heights of the first peripheral plate (14). the second peripheral plate (34) and the upright wall (22) correspond with one another.
