Description
Description
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING SERVICE USING
MOBILE COMMUNICAITON
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a method and system for providing services employing mobile communication and, more particularly, to mobile communication and Internet protocol television (IPTV) servicerelated technologies, which can request IPTVrelated services and provide corresponding services to an IPTV terminal by employing a mobile communication terminal. Background Art
[2] In recent years, the market of digital TV services as well as IPTV has expanded.
IPTV service is service for providing a user's TV with contents, such as video, audio, and data, over an IP communication network. IPTV service enables a user who is not accustomed to the computer to watch broadcasting programs and also employ a variety of services, such as contents viewing of movies, Internet search, home shopping, and online game, through TV. In particular, IPTV service enables bidirectional service, so that it can provide a user with service requested by the user. Accordingly, a user can select the type, audience time, etc. of an audience program actively.
[3] For IPTV service, the user side must be equipped with a TV receiver and an IPTV settop box. Here, the IPTV settop box can have mounted therein software for supporting bidirectional service. The IPTV settop box can function to request a service provider to transmit broadcasting contents, convert a broadcasting signal, received from the service provider, into a standard TV signal, and transmit the converted signal to the TV receiver, while transmitting and receiving information to and from the service provider over an IP network.
[4] In this IPTV service, the service provider can provide the user side with information, informing broadcasting schedule, a contents list, and so on, for example, an electronic program guide, etc. The IPTV settop box receives the electronic program guide provided from the service provider, and transmits the received electronic program guide to the TV receiver. The TV receiver displays the received electronic program guide. Hence, a user can select a desired program using a remote controller, etc., and the IPTV settop box requests a corresponding program from the service provider. Accordingly, the user can be provided with bidirectional service.
[5] However, in this IPTV service, there is a problem that a user can be provided with bidirectional service only through a home broadcasting receiving user equipment. For example, a user must input desired selection information to a home device, for
example, the TV receiver or the IPTV settop box in order to select a desired program. This problem may lead to temporal and spatial limits of bidirectional service. Accordingly, there is an urgent need for the development of technologies, which can solve the temporal and spatial limits of bidirectional service by associating the IPTV service and service that supports mobility. Mode for the Invention
[31] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail in connection with preferred embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings in order for those skilled in the art to be able to implement the invention. In the preferred embodiments of the present invention, specific technical terminologies are used for clarity of the contents. However, It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the specific terminologies and each specific terminology includes all technical synonyms operating in a similar way in order to accomplish a similar object.
[32] <Embodiment 1>
[33] FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the construction of a system for realizing a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a first preferred embodiment of the present invention.
[34] As illustrated in FIG. 1, in order to realize a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a first preferred embodiment of the present invention, a service provider side can be equipped with a mobile service providing unit 20 and an IPTV service providing unit 10.
[35] The mobile service providing unit 20 can provide broadcasting service guide information to a mobile communication terminal 70 of a user, which is accessed thereto over a mobile communication network. Here, the broadcasting service guide information can include broadcasting schedule information, broadcasting contents preview, a detail history (for example, a flash period, copyright information, dramatis personae, a plot, etc.) of broadcasting contents, pertinent information (for example, shopping mall information, etc. associated with broadcasting), etc. of broadcasting service, which is provided by the IPTV service providing unit 10.
[36] Further, when a service request is received from the user's mobile communication terminal 70, the mobile service providing unit 20 requests the IPTV service providing unit 10 to provide the requested service to an IPTV settop box 50 of the user. Here, the service can include broadcasting contents scheduling transmission, push video on demand (VoD) contents, preview transmission, and so on.
[37] The mobile service providing unit 20 can provide mobile service websites for this function. In this case, the user's mobile communication terminal 70 can access a mobile service website through a wireless Internet. The user can select and request a desired service while checking broadcasting service guide information in a corresponding mobile service website.
[38] The IPTV service providing unit 10 can provide the IPTV settop box 50 with service, which is requested by the IPTV settop box 50 or the mobile service providing unit 20. For example, when a service request to request scheduling transmission of specific broadcasting contents is received from the mobile service providing unit 20, the IPTV service providing unit 10 can transmit corresponding contents to the IPTV settop box 50 on the requested scheduled time.
[39] The mobile service providing unit 20 and the IPTV service providing unit 10 can be operated and managed by the same service provider or operated and managed by different service providers, which are associated with each other.
[40] FIG. 2 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a first preferred embodiment of the present invention.
[41] As illustrated in FIG. 2, the mobile communication terminal 70 can access the
mobile service providing unit 20 through a wireless Internet at the request of a user (step: Sl). Here, the mobile communication terminal 70 can provide user certification information (for example, a user ID, a password, etc.) to the mobile service providing unit 20.
[42] The mobile service providing unit 20 can transfer the user certification information, received from the mobile communication terminal 70, to the IPTV service providing unit 10 and request user certification (step: S2). The IPTV service providing unit 10 performs user certification based on the user certification information received from the mobile service providing unit 20 (step: S3) and, when there is no problem in certification, transmits broadcasting service guide data to the mobile service providing unit 20 (step: S4). Meanwhile, at the time of the certification, the mobile service providing unit 20 can request broadcasting service guide data from the IPTV service providing unit 10, when certification is normally performed after performing user certification based on user certification information received from the mobile communication terminal 70.
[43] The mobile service providing unit 20 creates broadcasting service guide information by processing the broadcasting service guide data, received from the IPTV service providing unit 10, into a form available in the mobile communication terminal 70 (step: S5) and transmits the created broadcasting service guide information to the mobile communication terminal 70 (step: S6). Here, the broadcasting service guide information can include, as described above, broadcasting schedule information, broadcasting contents preview, a detail history of broadcasting contents, pertinent information, and so on.
[44] When the mobile communication terminal 70 receives the broadcasting service guide information, a user can select a desired service (for example, broadcasting contents scheduling transmission, push VoD contents, preview transmission, etc.), while checking the broadcasting service guide information, using his own mobile communication terminal 70 (step: S7). For example, a user can select a scheduled service in order to watch specific broadcasting contents at a desired time through a home TV receiver. In this case, a user can input pieces of request information pertinent to the scheduled service (for example, a broadcasting contents name, a scheduled time, an IPTV settop box address for transmission, etc.) using the mobile communication terminal 70.
[45] The mobile communication terminal 70 requests the service, selected by the user, from the mobile service providing unit 20 (step: S8). Here, the mobile communication terminal 70 can transmit service request breakdown information (for example, a service type, a broadcasting contents name, a scheduled time, an IPTV settop box address, etc.) to the mobile service providing unit 20. Hence, the mobile service
providing unit 20 requests the requested service from the IPTV service providing unit 10 in response to the request from the mobile communication terminal 70 (step: S9). At the time of the service request, the mobile service providing unit 20 can transfer the requested service request breakdown information (for example, a broadcasting contents name, a scheduled time, an IPTV settop box address, etc.) to the IPTV service providing unit 10.
[46] The IPTV service providing unit 10 provides a corresponding service to the user's
IPTV settop box 50 according to the service request breakdown requested by the mobile service providing unit 20 (step: SlO). For example, if a service request to request specific broadcasting contents on a specific scheduled time is received, the IPTV service providing unit 10 can transmit corresponding broadcasting contents to the user's IPTV settop box 50 on a corresponding scheduled time. Hence, the IPTV settop box 50 stores the received broadcasting contents and a user can watch corresponding broadcasting contents using the TV receiver 60.
[47] As described above, according to a first preferred embodiment of the present invention, a user can be provided with broadcasting service guide information pertinent to IPTV service and can also request a desired service, by using the mobile communication terminal 10. Thus, a user can employ IPTV service without restriction to time and place. For example, a user can schedule broadcasting contents, which will be watched at home later on, using his own mobile communication terminal 70 while going out, and watch corresponding contents on the scheduled time after returning home.
[48] Meanwhile, the broadcasting service guide information can include shopping mall information, etc., which are associated with broadcasting. In this case, a user can select a desired shopping mall in the shopping mall information included in the broadcasting service guide information. Here, the mobile communication terminal 70 can request access to the shopping mall, selected by the user, from the mobile service providing unit 20. In response thereto, the mobile service providing unit 20 connects the user's mobile communication terminal 70 to a corresponding shopping mall. Hence, the user can purchase a desired article at an accessed shopping mall.
[49] <Embodiment 2>
[50] In the following second preferred embodiment, an example in which supplementary service guide information is provided and supplementary services, such as position service and video transmission service, are provided to a user's mobile communication terminal is described.
[51] FIG. 3 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a second preferred embodiment of the present invention.
[52] As illustrated in FIG. 3, in order to realize a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a second preferred embodiment of the present invention, the service provider side can be equipped with a mobile service providing unit 120 and an IPTV service providing unit 110. Here, the mobile service providing unit 120 can further include several functions for providing supplementary services in addition to the functions of the mobile service providing unit 20 of the first preferred embodiment.
[53] For example, the mobile service providing unit 120 can provide not only broadcasting service guide information, but also supplementary service guide information to a user's mobile communication terminal 170, which is accessed thereto over a mobile communication network. Here, the supplementary services can include a position service for informing the position of the user's mobile communication terminal 170, a video transmission service for transmitting images (for example, photographs, motion images, etc. which are taken using the camera of a mobile communication terminal), which are stored in the user's mobile communication terminal 170, to a designated user equipment (for example, an IPTV settop box, and so on), a voice transmission service for transmitting voice, stored in the user's mobile communication terminal 170, to a designated user equipment, and so on. Further, when a supplementary service request is received from the user's mobile communication terminal 170, the mobile service providing unit 120 can request the IPTV service provider 110 to provide the requested service to a user's IPTV settop box 150.
[54] First, the mobile communication terminal 170 can access the mobile service providing unit 120 through a wireless Internet at the request of a user (step: SI l). Here, the mobile communication terminal 170 can provide the mobile service providing unit 120 with user certification information (for example, a user ID, a password, and so on).
[55] The mobile service providing unit 120 can request user certification by transferring the user certification information, received from the mobile communication terminal 170, to the IPTV service providing unit 110 (step: S 12). The IPTV service providing unit 110 performs user certification on the basis of the user certification information received from the mobile service providing unit 120 (step: S 13), and when there is no problem in certification, transmits supplementary service guide data to the mobile service providing unit 120 (step: S 14). Meanwhile, at the time of the certification, the mobile service providing unit 120 can request supplementary service guide data from the IPTV service providing unit 110, when certification is normally performed after performing user certification based on user certification information received from the mobile communication terminal 170.
[56] The mobile service providing unit 120 creates supplementary service guide information by processing the supplementary service guide data, received from the IPTV
service providing unit 110, into a form, which is available in the mobile communication terminal 170, (step: S 15) and transmits the created supplementary service guide information to the mobile communication terminal 170 (step: S 16). Here, the supplementary service guide information can include information for guiding a position service, a video transmission service, a voice transmission service, etc. and receiving information necessary for a corresponding service.
[57] When the mobile communication terminal 170 receives the supplementary service guide information, a user can select a desired supplementary service (for example, a position service, a video transmission service, a voice transmission service, etc.) while checking the supplementary service guide information using his own mobile communication terminal 170 (step: S 17). For example, a user can select the position service in order to display position information of the mobile communication terminal 170 on a TV receiver by transmitting the position information to the IPTV settop box 150, or the video transmission service in order to display images, which have been captured using the camera of the mobile communication terminal 170 and stored in the mobile communication terminal 170, on a TV receiver by transmitting the images to the IPTV settop box 150.
[58] The mobile communication terminal 170 requests the supplementary service, selected by the user, from the mobile service providing unit 120 (step: S 18). Here, the mobile communication terminal 170 can transmit service request breakdown information (for example, a service type, an IPTV settop box address for transmission, and so on) and information necessary to provide the supplementary service (for example, in the case of the position service, information about a mobile communication terminal, and in the case of the video transmission service, image contents to be transmitted, and so on) to the mobile service providing unit 120.
[59] Next, the mobile service providing unit 120 can acquire and process information for the supplementary service requested by the mobile communication terminal (step: S 19). For example, in the case of the position service, the mobile service providing unit 120 can request the position of a corresponding mobile communication terminal 170 from a network entity, which provides the position information, and acquire the position information from the network entity. In the case of the video service transmission service, the mobile service providing unit 120 can perform a resizing process, etc. of image contents. The resizing process can also be performed by the IPTV service providing unit 110.
[60] Next, the mobile service providing unit 120 requests the requested supplementary service from the IPTV service providing unit 110 (step: S20). Here, the mobile service providing unit 120 transmits service breakdown information, information (for example, in the case of the position service, acquired position information of a mobile com-
munication terminal and, in the case of the video transmission service, corresponding image contents, and so on), which is necessary to provide the supplementary service, to the IPTV service providing unit 110.
[61] The IPTV service providing unit 110 provides the requested supplementary service to the IPTV settop box 150. For example, the IPTV service providing unit 110 can transmit the position information of the mobile communication terminal 170 to the IPTV settop box 150 or transmit the requested image contents to the IPTV settop box 150. In response thereto, the IPTV settop box 150 can store corresponding information and display in through the TV receiver. Therefore, the user can display its own current position on a home TV receiver and can display images, voice, etc., which are captured using the mobile communication terminal 170, through the TV receiver.
[62] <Embodiment 3>
[63] FIG. 4 is a block diagram showing the construction of a system for realizing a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a third preferred embodiment of the present invention.
[64] As illustrated in FIG. 4, in order to realize a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a third preferred embodiment of the present invention, the service provider side can be equipped with a mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280, a mobile service providing unit 220, and an IPTV service providing unit 210.
[65] The mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280 provides a user's mobile communication terminal 270 with a mobile broadcasting service. The mobile broadcasting information providing unit 280 can also provide the user's mobile communication terminal 270 with broadcasting service guide information. Here, the broadcasting service guide information can include a mobile broadcasting schedule table, channelbased broadcasting contents information, broadcasting detail information, and so on. The mobile broadcasting service can include a digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service, a digital video broadcasting (DVB) service, and so on.
[66] The mobile service providing unit 220 can receive a service request, requesting a broadcasting contents transmission service, from the user's mobile communication terminal 270. The mobile service providing unit 220 can receive this service request through SMS or over a wireless Internet network. The broadcasting contents transmission service may refer to a service for transmitting broadcasting contents corresponding to mobile broadcasting contents, which are now being provided to the user's mobile communication terminal 270, or specific mobile broadcasting contents included in broadcasting service guide information to a designated user equipment (for example, an IPTV settop box, etc.) in realtime or with reservation.
[67] For this broadcasting contents transmission service, a user interface and a setting
function through which the mobile communication terminal 270 requests services and inputs pertinent information are necessary. The user interface and the setting function can be provided by a specific application program installed at the mobile communication terminal 270 or can be provided in a web page fashion by the mobile service providing unit 220. Meanwhile, after the service request is received, the mobile service providing unit 220 can request the IPTV service provider 210 to provide the requested broadcasting contents transmission service to the user's IPTV settop box 250.
[68] The IPTV service providing unit 210 can provide the IPTV settop box 250 with services requested from the IPTV settop box 250 or the mobile service providing unit 220. For example, the IPTV service providing unit 210 can transmit broadcasting contents, requested from the mobile service providing unit 220, to the IPTV settop box 250 in realtime or with reservation.
[69] The mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280, the mobile service providing unit 220, and the IPTV service providing unit 210 can be operated and managed by a service provider having the same two or more entities, or operated and managed by different service providers that are associated with each other.
[70] FIG. 5 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing services employing mobile communication in accordance with a third preferred embodiment of the present invention.
[71] As illustrated in FIG. 5, the mobile communication terminal 270 can request broadcasting service guide information from the mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280 (step: S31), receive the requested broadcasting service guide information from the mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280, and display the received broadcasting service guide information thereon (step: S32). Hence, a user can select and watch desired mobile broadcasting contents.
[72] The user watches the mobile broadcasting contents and can request a broadcasting contents transmission service using a user interface and a setting function, which are provided by a specific application program installed at the mobile communication terminal 270, in order to watch corresponding broadcasting contents through a home TV receiver (step: S33). Here, an address of the IPTV settop box 250 to which the broadcasting contents will be transmitted can be set previously or can be received from a user at the time of a service request. Broadcasting contents to be transmitted can be broadcasting contents now being watched, or broadcasting contents included in service guide information (in this case, the broadcasting contents must be selected by a user).
[73] Next, the mobile communication terminal 270 can transmit a service request, requesting a broadcasting contents transmission service, to the mobile service providing unit 220 over a SMS network or wireless Internet network (step: S34). At
the time of the service request, the mobile communication terminal 270 can transmit service request breakdown information (for example, a service type, mobile communication terminal identification information, broadcasting contents identification information, IPTV settop box address information, and so on). Meanwhile, the mobile service providing unit 220 can also provide a web page for the broadcasting contents transmission service. In this case, the mobile communication terminal 270 can access a corresponding web page, and input pertinent information and request service.
[74] The mobile service providing unit 220 can request the service from the IPTV service providing unit 210 in response to the service request from the mobile communication terminal 270 (step: S35). Here, the mobile service providing unit 220 can transmit service request breakdown information to the IPTV service providing unit 210.
[75] The IPTV service providing unit 210 provides a corresponding service to the user's
IPTV settop box 250 according to the service request breakdown requested from the mobile service providing unit 220 (step: S36). For example, the IPTV service providing unit 210 can transmit IPTV service broadcasting contents, corresponding to the requested mobile broadcasting contents, to the user's IPTV settop box 250. Meanwhile, the IPTV service providing unit 210 can receive the requested mobile broadcasting contents from the mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280 by requesting it from the mobile broadcasting service providing unit 280, convert (for example, resizing, transcoding, etc.) the received mobile broadcasting contents into a form suitable for an IPTV service, and then transmit the converted mobile broadcasting contents to the IPTV settop box 250. Hence, the IPTV settop box 250 stores corresponding contents and the user can watch the contents using the TV receiver.
[76] As described above, according to the third preferred embodiment of the present invention, a user can watch mobile broadcasting contents, which are now being watched using the mobile communication terminal 270 or will be watched, through a TV receiver.
[77] Meanwhile, a plurality of network devices including the IPTV settop box can be equipped at home. They can operate in conjunction with each other over a local network such as a home network. Contents stored in the IPTV settop box can be shared on the basis of this network. For this sharing, a domain has to be formed. The domain may refer to a set of certified devices. The domain can be managed by a specific domain administrator. A domain administrator can perform device registration with a domain, release of a domain, information update of a domain and the like. Further, for the purpose of cooperation between devices in a domain, a license administrator for issuing and managing a common license, which can be in common use within the domain, is required. The license administrator can perform functions such as
management of a common license and management of contents. The devices within the domain must operate in conjunction with the domain administrator and the license administrator. When the physical or logical location of the domain administrator or the license administrator is changed, a corresponding entity can inform the devices of the change of the physical or logical location through an event of a push or pull form. A message of the event can include identification information of an administrator, information notifying the change history, and so on.
[78] Hereinafter, items, which are necessary for an IPTV user (user) to redistribute downloaded contents to other devices at home, are sequentially described below.
[79] 1. A method of storing broadcasting content received by a conditional access system (CAS) as DRM.
[80] 2. A method of configuring an authorized domain.
[81] 3. A method of redistributing content to other devices within the domain.
[82] FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating the architecture of IPTV contents transmission. A broadcasting service provider sends several broadcasting channels over an IP network. Here, a CAS can be used. After contents scrambled according to a method defined by each CAS are descrambled, broadcasting contents can be watched. Contents that have not used a CAS (that is, that have not been scrambled) do not require the descrambling process.
[83] If it is sought to store broadcasting, a user can issue a storage command using an UI
(at this time, supplementary information can also be set), and store the broadcasting based on input information (for example, the supplementary information can include a desired media storage format, whether or not to use DRM, which DRM will be used, whether redistribution is needed, the range of a domain in the case of redistribution, and so on).
[84] Thereafter, when the stored broadcasting can be watched again, the user can redistribute the broadcasting within an authorized domain that will be described later on.
[85] Here, a DRM (DRMl, 2, 3) controller of an IPTV settop box can be installed at the request of a user.
[86] Meanwhile, the IPTV settop box can form a domain. When the domain is defined as a set of devices, a device belonging to a specific domain is controlled (subscription to or secession from a domain, contents sharing, policy update, and so on) by a domain controller.
[87] The functions of the domain controller can be included in the IPTV settop box or an external domain controller can be employed. The domain must be distinguished using a unique identifier and an internal device can also be distinguished using a unique identifier.
[88] Referring to FIG. 7, there exist an IPTV settop boxl and three devices using
DRMl, DRM2, and DRM3, within a domain called 'MY Domain'.
[89] FIG. 8 is a diagram illustrating a process of redistributing contents received by an
IPTV settop box.
[90] 1. The IPTV settop boxl receives contents from a broadcasting service provider.
The contents can be encrypted using a CAS, etc. It is assumed that the contents are encrypted using a CAS in FIG. 8.
[91] 2. Next, the IPTV settop boxl can use the contents through a proper user certification procedure through a CAS controller.
[92] 3. Here, if it is sought to store the contents, a user selects desired contents through an UI and starts storing the contents together with supplementary information such as billing. At this time, the IPTV settop boxl stores the broadcasting contents with security in the clear contents type. The stored contents are connected to the DRM serverl and received with a desired license. The license can be considered a case in which the contents are limited to use within the IPTV settop box and a case in which the contents are redistributed to the DRMl device. When redistribution of the contents is considered, the DRM serverl creates and transmits a license which limits the use of the contents only in the DRMl device.
[93] 3-1. To this end, a fourth step includes analyzing and applying information pertinent to domain management, such as certification of domain members and recognition of a common security scheme (a domain key, etc.), with respect to target devices.
[94] 4. The IPTV settop boxl analyzes the capability of the DRMl device and transmits a license in which contents are limited to play only in the DRMl device (and received from 3), and contents, if the license is transferable. Next, the devicel plays corresponding contents, but cannot redistribute the contents.
[95] Meanwhile, a specific one of devices belonging to a domain can be set to a local domain master. The local domain master can become a device with a high capability, of the devices belonging to the domain. The local domain master can be selected through the exchange of capability information between the devices. For example, the devices within the domain can broadcast information (for example, their own capability information, etc.) for selecting a local domain master. When a device has a capability lower than that of other devices, it loses in selection competition and waits until the selection is finished. When a device has a capability higher than that of other devices, it can send a response message to other devices.
[96] A domain controller is responsible for a size, expansion, and so on of a domain.
When only one domain controller exists in a domain, a corresponding domain controller can become a local domain master, and when a plurality of domain controllers exists in a domain, one of the domain controllers can become a local
domain master.
[97] Although the present invention has been described in connection with the preferred embodiments of the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, those skilled in the art will understand that that various changes and modifications may be made to the present invention without departing from the scope and spirit of the following claims of the invention. Accordingly, further changes of the embodiments of the present invention will not be deviated from the technology of the present invention.
