Abstract
A catalyst which can retain excellent catalytic activity and durability for long in a wet oxidation treatment of a wastewater; and a method of the wet oxidation treatment of a wastewater with the catalyst. The catalyst, which is for use in the wet oxidation treatment of a wastewater, comprises a catalyst support and an active ingredient which each comprises a specific ingredient. The number of active-ingredient particles present per unit area of the support is a specific value or larger. The catalyst for wastewater treatment is characterized in that the active ingredient is a noble metal, the support on which the active ingredient is supported is a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of iron, titanium, silicon, aluminum, and zirconium, at least 70 mass% of the active ingredient is present in a position within 500 µm of the support surface, and the active ingredient has an average particle diameter of 0.5-20 nm.
