Abstract

A ceramic honeycomb structure (2) comprising a peripheral wall (21), partition walls (22) provided on the inside of the peripheral wall (21) in a honeycomb-like state, and plural cells (3) which are divided with the partition walls (22) and at least part of which open at the ends (23, 24). In the structure (2), a catalyst material (1) for burning soot discharged from an internal combustion engine which comprises layered alumina and silver dispersed in the layered alumina is supported on the partition walls constituting the inside faces of the cells (3). Thus, a honeycomb structure bearing a catalyst material supported thereon which enables the combustion of soot even at low temperature can be produced without corroding the honeycomb structure.
