Abstract

Means for restraining vehicle occupants in which a single retractor works to wind up both lap and shoulder belts and an air belt is more comfortable to occupants. An air belt (10) includes a bag (14) inflatable with gas delivered from an inflator (9), and a webbing (15) together with a mesh webbing (16) extending over only a limited zone (12) through across a tong along the bag (14). The webbing (15) is made of inexpansible webbing material. The webbing (15) is sewn together at a shoulder side thereof with the bag (14) by means of a first joined portion (17) of sewing thread while at a lap side thereof with the bag (14) by means of a second joined portion (18) of sewing thread. A length (L) of the webbing (15) between the first and second joined portions (17 and 18) is less than a length (B) of the bag (14) extending between the first and second joined portions (17 and 18).
