Abstract

An iris registration device (10) includes: a light emission unit (12) which applies illumination to a person to be registered with a specific light emission pattern; an imaging unit (14) which captures the image of the person; an iris encoding unit (16) which encodes the image into a bit string; and a registration data generation unit (18) which generates registration data formed by the bit string and the light emission pattern ID and stores the data in a registration data storage unit (20). Moreover, an iris authentication device (50) extracts the registration data on the person to be authenticated, from a registration data storage unit (62). A light emission unit (52) applies illumination to the person to be authenticated with the light emission pattern of the registration data so that an imaging unit (54) captures its image. An iris encoding unit (56) encodes the image into a bit string. A code comparison unit (58) makes a comparison and judges similarity between the bit string of the person to be authenticated and the bit string of the registered data. Thus, it is possible to prevent unauthorized intrusion using an image of a registered person by a third person.
