Abstract

L'invention concerne un dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides qui est muni de deux panneaux à cristaux liquides (un premier et un second panneau) destinés à afficher des images conformément à des signaux de source vidéo, et d'une pluralité de polariseurs (A, B, C) (couches d'absorption de lumière de polarisation). Ces panneaux et ces polariseurs sont disposés de manière à se chevaucher les uns les autres. Lesdits polariseurs sont maintenus entre les panneaux à cristaux liquides afin de créer une relation de type « cross-Nicol ». Le dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides selon l'invention est en outre doté d'une unité de conversion de valeur d'échelle de gris (422) qui convertit les valeurs d'échelle de gris des données d'image servant à afficher une image sur le second panneau. Suite à cette conversion, les parties principales de tous les nombres de bits permettant d'exprimer les valeurs d'échelle de gris sont attribuées aux données d'image qui appartiennent à une région à échelle de gris réduite.
