Abstract
Disclosed is an industrially advantageous method for neutralizing carbonyl chloride, which is characterized by circularly using an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution, and which can overcome the problem of a blockage in a pipe. Specifically disclosed is a method for neutralizing carbonyl chloride, which comprises neutralizing carbonyl chloride with an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution, discharging a portion of the aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution out of the reaction system as an alkaline liquid waste, and using the remainder of the aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution for the neutralization as an alkaline circulating liquid. In the method, the concentration of an alkali metal carbonate in the aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution produced after the neutralization is adjusted to 1 to 5 wt%.
