Abstract
An oxygen scavenger capable of absorbing and removing oxygen in the atmosphere, which consists of an inorganic oxide having oxygen-deficient oxygen-absorbing sites and in which at least part of the oxygen-absorbing sites are temporarily blocked with a site blocker (such as carbon dioxide serving as carbonyl), whereby the handling time until the initiation of oxygen scavenging function is improved. The oxygen scavenger can be favorably produced by reduction-firing an inorganic oxide powder at 500°C or above to withdraw oxygen forcedly and thus form oxygen-absorbing sites due to reversible oxygen deficiency and then blocking at least part of the oxygen-absorbing sites with a site blocker in a releasable state.
