Description

"TREADMILL WITH ADJUSTABLE CUSHION DEVICES"
The present invention relates to a treadmill with adjustable cushion devices for providing cushion feature directly to the support deck. A conventional treadmill generally includes a rectangular frame and a driving device connected to the frame and including a motor so as to drive two rollers. These rollers are also supported on the frame, a support deck is located between the two rollers and an endless belt is driven over the rollers. The user walking on the endless belt and .the support deck exerts a reaction force to the user's ankles, so that if the endless belt and/or the support deck is too stiff the user's ankles might be injured.
To prevent such injuries, a conventional treadmill further includes a cushion device essentially consisting of a cushion bladder connected to an underside of the support deck and including a protrusion portion which can be deformed when a weight is applied to the cushion bladder. A pressure adjusting device is located in said protrusion portion of the cushion bladder and includes a motor, a cylinder and a pressure detection member connected to an outlet of the cushion bladder.
When the pressure adjusting device is activated, air enters into the cushion bladder via an inlet and when the user walks on the endless belt the cushion bladder is deformed and air is released from the outlet. However, since the pressure adjusting device is located in the cushion bladder, if the cushion bladder does not have sufficient pressure the load applied by the user might cause the pressure adjusting device to hit the floor and be crushed.
The object of the present invention is to provide a treadmill with cushion devices which overcomes the above-mentioned drawback. This object is achieved by means of a treadmill wherein the support deck is supported on multiple flexible connection members and multiple cushion bladders are in contact with the underside of the support deck, so that the shocks can be absorbed before transferring to the user's ankles, the pressure adjusting devices of said bladders being located on the outside of the" frame.
The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, two preferred embodiments in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 1 is an exploded view to show the treadmill of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view to show the treadmill of the present invention wherein a part of the endless belt is removed;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view to show one of the cushion bladders of the present invention;
Fig. 4 is a partial longitudinal cross sectional view to show that the cushion bladders are in contact with the underside of the support deck;
Fig. 5 is a partial longitudinal cross sectional view to show that the cushion bladders are compressed when a load is applied to the support deck; and
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig.2 that shows a second embodiment in which two cushion bladders are arranged longitudinally on the frame. Referring to Figs. 1 to 4, the treadmill of the present invention comprises a rectangular frame 10 having two parallel extension boards 11 connected to two insides of the frame 10, and a driving device 20 is connected between the two insides of the frame 10 and includes a motor and two rollers 21 which are driven by the motor. Each of the extension boards 11 has a plurality of flexible connection members 12 on a top thereof and a support deck 23 is connected to the flexible connection members 12. A gap is defined between the support deck 23 and the extension boards 11. An. endless belt 22 is driven by the two rollers 21 and the support deck 23 is located between an upper portion and a lower portion of the endless belt 22. A cushion device 30 includes two cushion bladders 31 which are arranged on two transverse bars connected between the two insides of the frame 10. Each cushion bladder 31 is an elongate bladder and a protrusion extends from a top of each cushion bladder 31. The protrusions of the two cushion bladders 31 are in contact with an underside of the support deck 23 (Fig.4). Each cushion bladder 31 further has a valve 33 for introducing air into the cushion bladder 31 or releasing air from the cushion bladder 31. Two adjusting members 32 are located on an outside of the frame 10 and connected with the two respective valves 33 of the two cushion bladders 31. Each adjusting member 32 has a button so as to control pressure in each cushion bladder 31 by introducing air into the cushion bladder 31 or releasing air from the cushion bladder 31. As shown in Fig.5, when a user walks on the endless belt 22 and exerts a load to the support deck 23, the support deck 23 sinks slightly and compresses the cushion bladders 31 which are deformed to absorb the shocks so that the user's ankles receive less impact during the use of the treadmill. Besides, the flexible connection members 12 are made by flexible material which also absorbs the shocks from the support deck 23.
Fig.6 shows an alternative embodiment in which the two cushion bladders 31 are arranged longitudinally to the frame 10 and the length of the cushion bladders 31 can be made long enough to effectively absorb shocks from any position of the support deck 23. In this embodiment, the two adjusting members 32 are located on an outside of the frame 10 respectively on the left and right side, rather than on the same side as in the previous embodiment.
While we have shown and described the above embodiments in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
