Abstract

A liquid crystal panel (or a display unit) (3) has a plurality of display areas, and a back light device (or a back light unit) (2) is set with a plurality of illumination areas for making the lights of light emitting diodes (or light sources) (4) individually incident on the display areas. Also disposed are an area brightness detecting unit (27) for detecting the brightness value of each of the illumination areas, and an aging change discriminating unit (28) for discriminating the aging degree of the light emitting diodes (4) contained in each illumination area, by using the detection result from the area brightness detecting unit (27), thereby to correct the brightness values of the corresponding illumination areas on the basis of the discrimination result.
