Abstract

An electric power steering device having versatility achieved by a simple construction. The electric steering device of the column assist type has a steering column having installed in it a steering shaft to which steering torque is transmitted, and also has an electric motor (5) for transmitting steering assistance force to the steering shaft via a reduction mechanism inside a reduction gear box (4). The electric motor (5) and a control unit (19) for controlling drive of the electric motor (5) are arranged next to the reduction gear box (4). The control unit (19) has a control board (19A) on which at least a processing device for calculating a command value is mounted, a power board (19B) on which a switching element for the motor is mounted, and a module part (19C) on which a connector, a relay, and a part for countermeasures for noise are mounted. The control board (19A), the power board (19B), and the module part (19C) are individually fixed to an installation surface of the reduction gear box.
