Abstract

A controller for a hybrid vehicle having an engine that outputs propelling force for the vehicle and also having a motor that can generate regeneration energy through regenerative operation during idling of the engine. The controller subjects the motor to a power generation load to control the engine speed to a predetermined idle speed lower than an idle speed (normal idle speed) which is set when the motor is not subjected to the power generation load. Because a time per cycle is prolonged by lowering the idle speed, cooling loss can be increased and warming of the engine and vehicle interior can be accelerated.
