Abstract

An illuminating apparatus for a display device is provided for irradiating a flat display panel (11) with light, and is provided with a plurality of linear light sources (17). The linear light source (17) is driven with a relatively high voltage on one linear end side, and a relatively low voltage on the other end side. The distance between the linear light source (17) and the display panel (11) at the end sections on the high voltage side is relatively large, and that at the end sections on the low voltage side is relatively small.
