Description

Description A COOLING DEVICE
[0001] The present invention relates to a cooling device comprising a drawer.
[0002] Cooling devices contain compartments wherein foods and drinks are kept, and in between two compartments, drawers wherein various food products are stored. Although opened and closed separately, food products inside such drawers remain cool because they are on the same cold air circulation circuit as other compartments. Yet, each time a drawer, located between two compartments, is pulled for loading or unloading purposes, warm air enters inside the opened drawer, reaching as well other compartments which share the same cold air circulation circuit. It is, therefore, impossible to maintain efficient cooling of the compartments, particularly if drawers are kept open for a long time.
[0003] In the state of the art, the German patent application number DE19546984 describes a drawer in the form of a chest, which in closed position, goes directly into the compartment. When the drawer is pulled open, however, it is equipped with a top plate preventing external air to reach other parts of the compartment and joints on the borders for impermeability purposes.
[0004] In the state of the art, the United States patent application number US2145892 describes a drawer which is designed in such a way that the air circulation circuit allows cold air to pass over the drawer when the drawer is in closed position and stops it when the drawer is in open position. Air ventilated into the drawer at closed position is directed towards the rear of the drawer when pulled open.
[0005] In current applications in the state of the art, when drawers between two compartments are pulled open to access inside, external warmth is kept from entering inside the cooling device by pushing the air circulate towards the rear of the drawer. In such a case, however, as cold air circulates in an inert area where there are no food products, efficiency decreases.
[0006] The aim of the present invention is the realization of a cooling device comprising a container with which efficiency loss can be avoided even when it is pulled open and kept outside for a longtime.
[0007] The cooling device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, is defined in the attached claims. This cooling device comprises a housing immediately next to the compartment, and there is a drawer situated inside the housing. Over the wall of the compartment, neighboring the drawer, there is at least one exit enabling cold air to pass through. Ventilated through this exit, air enters inside the drawer and keeps the food products placed therein cool.
[0008] The cooling device also comprises minimum one valve that controls air passage through the exit. When the drawer is totally inside the housing, that is to say, when it is in closed position, the valve is open. This enables the cold air circulation from the neighboring compartments to pass through inside the drawer and cools the foods therein. When the drawer is pulled open, the valve closes and prevents the air from passing through the exit. Therefore, when the drawer is in open position, cold air circulates only through the compartment. Opening and closing the drawer triggers the opening and closing of the valve.
[0009] The cooling device comprises a movement mechanism that provides attachment of the cooling drawer to the cooling device movably.
[0010] In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the housing is formed between two compartments. The drawer is preferably in the form of a quadrant. The movement mechanism utilized in this embodiment is a pivot situated between two compartments. The drawer comprises a bearing, wherein the pivot is inserted, fitted at one point near the corner of the drawer. The drawer opens and closes by turning round the axis formed by the pivot.
[0011] In an embodiment of the present invention, a conduit is placed opposite the exit to enable the cold air entering into the drawer to diffuse all over the inside. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the conduit has a cylindrical shape. There are several holes over the conduit enabling the passage of air into the interior of the drawer.
[0012] In an embodiment of the present invention, the drawer comprises at least one separator that enables storing several food products therein without mixing with others.
[0013] In an embodiment of the present invention, the drawer comprises a cover. Therefore, when the drawer is in open position, it serves as a shelf whereupon goods may be disposed. In this embodiment, the drawer is equipped with an entry corresponding to the exit of the compartment, which enables the access of cold air from the compartment into the drawer.
[0014] The cooling device of the present invention enables to take food products, for example food for breakfast, out of the cooling device inside a drawer, keep it in there as long as it may be necessary, and replace it back in the cooling device without losing any cooling efficiency.
[0015] A cooling device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[0016] Figure 1 - is a perspective view of a cooling device,
[0017] Figure 2 - is a perspective view of a cooling device with open compartment,
[0018] Figure 3 - is a perspective view of a cooling device with open drawer,
[0019] Figure 4 - is a detail perspective view of a cooling device with open drawer,
[0020] Figure 5 - is a detail perspective view of a cooling device with open valve,
[0021] Figure 6 - is a detail perspective view of a cooling device with closed valve,
[0022] Figure 7 - is a perspective view of a drawer.
[0023] The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows: 1. Cooling device 2. Body

14. Entry
15. Door
[0024] The cooling device (1) of the present invention comprises a body (2); at least one compartment (3) inside this body (2) wherein foods and drinks are placed; a door (15) that enables access into the compartment (3); at least one housing (4) formed inside the body (2) neighboring the compartment (3); at least one drawer (5) inserted inside this housing (4) which enables access therein without opening the door (15); and at least one exit (6) over the wall of the compartment (3) adjacent to the drawer (5) so as to let cold air get out. Cold air inside the compartment (3) passes through the exit (6) to reach the drawer (5) and cools the foodstuff placed therein.
[0025] The cooling device (1) also comprises at least one valve (7):
- that controls the passage of air through the exit (6),
- that opens and enables cold air to pass through the exit (6) into the drawer (5) while the drawer (5) remains inside the housing (4),
- that closes and prevents air circulation through the exit when the drawer (5) is pulled open,
- that is triggered by the opening and closing of the drawer (5). [0026] The cooling device (1) is also equipped with a movement mechanism (8) that provides movably attachment of the drawer (5) thereto.
[0027] In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the housing (4) is formed between two compartments (3). The drawer (5) is preferably in the form of a quadrant. The movement mechanism (8) utilized in this embodiment is in the shape of a pivot situated between two compartments (3). The drawer (5) comprises a bearing (9), wherein a movement mechanism (8) is inserted, fitted at one point near the corner. The drawer (5) opens and closes by turning around the axis formed by the movement mechanism (8).
[0028] In one version of this embodiment, the drawer (5), while passing from closed to open position, can be turned at a maximum angle of 90°. The drawer (5) in open position is thus totally outside the housing (4), and the orifice of the housing (4) is closed by the flat rear wall of the drawer (5). This way, entry of external warm air inside the housing (4), and therefore efficiency loss, is avoided throughout the period that the drawer (5) is kept open.
[0029] In another version of this embodiment, the drawer (5), while passing from closed to open position, can be turned up to an angle of 270°. Therefore, the drawer (5) in open position does not encumber in front of the cooling device (1).
[0030] In one embodiment of the present invention, the drawer (5) comprises a conduit (10) placed opposite the exit (6) which lets the incoming cold air diffuse all over the drawer (5). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the conduit has a cylindrical shape. In this embodiment, there are several holes (11) over the conduit (10) enabling the passage of cold air into the interior of the drawer (5).
[0031] In one embodiment of the present invention, the drawer (5) is equipped with at least one separator (12), which enables storing several food products therein without mixing with others. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, these separators (12) are in the form of plates dividing the quadrant- shaped drawer (5) into segments. In this embodiment, the holes (11) over the conduit (10) are fitted so as to have at least one hole (11) corresponding to each segment.
[0032] In one embodiment of the present invention, the drawer (5) comprises a cover (13). Therefore, when the drawer (5) is in open position, it serves as a shelf whereupon goods may be disposed. In this embodiment, the drawer (5) is equipped with an entry (14) corresponding to the exit (6) of the compartment (3), which enables the access of cold air from the compartment (3) into the drawer (5).
