Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention are described in detail by referring to the figures. However, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments of the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating a system 200 for continuously providing online information according to an embodiment of the present invention.
As illustrated in FIG. 2, the system 200 for continuously providing online information is embodied through a client terminal 210, a web server 220, and an online information providing server 230. The online information providing server 230 installs a client application when the client terminal 210 terminates a connection to a web page, and continuously provides a user with information provided from the web server 220 via the client application. In this specification, terminating the connection to the web page by the client terminal 210 may indicate closing the loaded web page and branching from the loaded web page to another web page.
Also, the client terminal 210 throughout this specification includes any one of a computer terminal including a notebook computer, a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) terminal, a session initiation protocol (SIP) terminal, a media gateway control (Megaco) terminal, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a mobile phone, a personal communication service (PCS) phone, a hand-held personal computer (PC), a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-2000 (IX, 3X) phone, a Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) phone, a dual band/dual mode phone, a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) phone, a mobile broadband system (MBS) phone, a satellite/terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) phone, and a portable terminal. That is, the client terminal 210 indicates a personal computer (PC) and a portable terminal capable of wired and wireless convergence such as a cellular phone, notebook, and PDA. Also, the client terminal 210 may receive contents represented through the client application in a form of a short messaging service (SMS) or multimedia message server (MMS). That is, the user designates a range of information to be received using the client application, inputs a phone number to the client terminal 210, and thereby may continuously receive the information as the SMS or MMS from the online information providing server 230. In this instance, the information may be embodied as information including an image or video, or a message converted into Rich Site Summary (RSS). Specifically, the web server 220 requests the online information providing server 230 for an establishment of a link for a web service. Also, the online information providing server 230 establishes the link with the web page, provided by the web server 220, according to the request. Accordingly, the web server 220 receives a request from the web page from the client terminal 210, and provides the web page to the client terminal 210 according to the request. The user of the client terminal 210 looks at the connected web page and another web page linked with the web page and uses the web service. The user that finishes using the web service terminates the connection to the web page by closing the web browser. Accordingly, the client terminal 210 reports to the online information providing server 230 that the user disconnects to the web page, and the online information providing server 230 installs the client application in the client terminal 210. In this instance, the installation of the client application is made when the user agrees to the installation. For example, the online information providing server 230 transmits an application program for the installation to the client terminal 210 when the connection to the web page is terminated, and the client terminal 210 receives and executes the application program. The application program inquires of the user whether to install the client application, and the client application is selectively installed according to a response from the user. Thus, the method of providing online information provided by the system 200 for continuously providing online information may overcome a disadvantage of low loading speed caused by an installation of a client application when connecting to a web page in a conventional art. Also, unlike a spam browser which is pop-up window, the client application is installed when terminating the connection to the web page, and thus the user may feel more comfortable with the installation and a penetration of the client application may increase.
FIG. 3 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing online information according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 3, a web server requests an online information providing server for a service in operation 301. The online information providing server establishes a link on a web page provided by the web server according to the request in operation 302. The web server provides a web page where the link is established to a client terminal, and thereby may apply the service in operation 303. Specifically, the web server requests the online information providing server for the link in order to install a client application in the client terminal via the link. Accordingly, the online information providing server may establish the link on the web page, provided by the web server, according to the request, and apply the service enabling the client application to be installed in the client terminal, which connects to the web page, via the link.
In operation 304, the client terminal connects to the web server and makes a request for the web page. In operation 305, the web server receives the request from the client terminal and provides a corresponding web page to the client terminal according to the request. In operation 306, the client terminal loads the web page from the web server, and surfing is performed through the web page. That is, a user that connects to the web page looks at the web page or another web page linked to the web page.
After finishing the web surfing, the user disconnects from the web page using an input device of the client terminal such as a keyboard or a mouse. That is, the client terminal receives the user's input to close the web page and terminates the connection to the web page in operation 307. The client terminal generates a corresponding event according to the termination, generates a query corresponding to the generated event, and transmits the query to the web server. The web server receives the query and confirms the disconnection of the web page. In operation 308, the web server requests the client terminal, which terminates the connection to the web page, for the installation of the client application. In operation 309, the client terminal installs the client application according to the request from the web server. For example, when receiving the request for the installation from the web server, the client terminal may receive a predetermined application program for the installation of the client application from the online information providing server by referring to the link of the web page. The application program may be provided by streaming or downloading. The client terminal may install the client application using the provided application program.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the online information providing server enables the application program to install the client application, only when the user agrees to the installation of the client application. For example, the application program may inquire whether the user agrees to the installation, and install the client application according to a response to the inquiry. In this instance, the application program transmits the response to the online information providing server, and may install the client application when receiving an authorization from the online information providing server. When the user does not agree to the installation, the application program may stop the installation and be automatically terminated after a predetermined time.
When the client application is installed in the client terminal, the application program reports to the online information providing server that the client application is completely installed. The client terminal where the client application is installed may continuously receive useful information from the online information providing server through the client application. Specifically, the online information providing server collects information associated with the web page which the user looks at, and transmits the information to the client terminal in operation 310. In operation 311, the client terminal receives the information from the online information providing server and provides the information to the user. For example, the client terminal may provide the user with the received information using a pop-up browser provided by the client application.
As an example, the online information providing server may collect only information associated with the web page which the user looks at, and another web page which the user looks at via the web page from corresponding web servers, and provide the information to the client terminal. For this, the online information providing server may receive history information about the web page or the other web page from the application program and provide the information based on the history information. The history information includes information about Internet cookies, log information, Internet temporary files information, and the like. In general, the client terminal stores a record of visited web pages in a hard disk. Accordingly, the application program extracts the history information stored in the hard disk and transmits the history information to the online information providing server. Also, the online information providing server may provide differentiated information to only the client terminal by referring to the history information. For example, when the user connects to a web page providing information about weddings and another web page providing information about honeymoons via the web page providing the wedding information, the online information providing server may select only the information about the weddings and honeymoons and provide the selected information to the client terminal.
That is, the method of providing online information installs the client application after terminating the connection to the web page, whereas a method in a conventional art installs a client application before loading a web page. Accordingly, the method of providing online information may continuously provide the user with the differentiated information based on the history information.
Hereinafter, an embodiment where an online information providing server provides information to a client terminal, calculates a predetermined cost, and credits the calculated cost is described with reference to FIG. 4.
FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating a database 400 associated with accounting according to an embodiment of the present invention.
An online information providing server stores information associated with accounting via the database 400. As illustrated in FIG. 4, the database 400 stores web server information identifying a web server, and standards for calculating a cost to be accounted. The web server information may be a domain name of the web server, a server Internet Protocol (IP), and the like. The standards may include a frequency of providing information, a number of installations, and a service period. The frequency of providing information indicates a number of times the online information providing server provides the information from the web server to a user. The number of installations indicates a number of times a client application is installed in a client terminal. The service period indicates a period of time that the information is provided to the client terminal.
For example, the database 400 stores the frequency of providing information, ' 1230 times', which indicates a number of times that the online information providing server provides the client terminal with information from a web server identified as a 'server A'. Also, the online information providing server may perform an accounting process using the frequency of providing information. In this instance, a cost calculated for each time that the information is transmitted may be negotiated in advance between a provider of the web server and a provider of the online information providing server.
As another example, the database 400 may store the number of installations in the client terminal, and the online information providing server may perform the accounting process using the number of installations. The calculated cost may be credited to a provider of a web server providing a web page that the user looks at. Also, a cost calculated per installation may be negotiated in advance between the provider of the web server and the provider of the online information providing server. The online information providing server may perform the accounting process based on the service period where the information from the web server is provided to the client terminal by referring to the database 400. For example, the online information providing server may enable a cost to be credited to the provider of the web server. In this instance, the cost is calculated according to a period that the information is provided, for example, a day, a week, and a month, by referring to the database 400. That is, the provider of the web server pays only the cost for a predetermined time, as a flat rate system, regardless of the number of installations or the frequency of providing information, and may continuously provide the user with the online information.
FIG. 5 is a block diagram illustrating an online information providing server 500 according to an embodiment of the present invention. As illustrated in FIG. 5, the online information providing server 500 includes a link establishment unit 510, an application installation unit 520, and an information providing unit 530.
The link establishment unit 510 establishes a link which enables a client application to be installed on a web page provided to a client terminal. For this, the link establishment unit 510 interoperates in advance with a web server and controls the link to be established on the web page.
The application installation unit 520 controls the client application to be installed in the client terminal of a user via the link, when the user connected to the web page terminates the connection to the web page. In a conventional art, when the user connects to the web page, the client application is installed via the link. However, the online information providing server 500 receives an event signal about the disconnection from the user and installs the client application according to the event signal. Accordingly, the online information providing server 500 may receive information about web pages that the user looks at and selectively provide only information of interest to the user. Also, the online information providing server 500 may overcome an inconvenience of a low loading speed due to the installation of the client application when connecting to the web page in the conventional art.
The application installation unit 520 may include an installation determination unit 540. The installation determination unit 540 inquires of the user about whether the user agrees to the installation of the client application via the link, and determines whether to install the client application according to a response to the inquiry. That is, the online information providing server 500 may install the client application under the agreement of the user. Although it is illustrated that the installation determination unit 540 and the application installation unit 520 are separately configured in FIG. 5, the installation determination unit 540 may be included in the application installation unit 520 as described above.
The information providing unit 530 continuously provides information associated with the web page to client terminals where the client application is installed. For example, the online information providing server 500 may continuously provide information, desired by the user such as advertisement, and the like, to the client terminal using the client application through the information providing unit 530, unlike a keyword advertisement. The advertisement may include at least one of a text advertisement, banner advertisement, keyword advertisement, targeting advertisement such as an email advertisement, context advertisement, banner exchange through affiliate marketing, and point build-up among Internet ads. Also, the advertisement may include related online address information. That is, when selecting an advertisement, the client terminal may connect to a corresponding web site using the online address information included in the advertisement.
Also, the online information providing server 500 may further include an accounting unit 550. The accounting unit 550 calculates a predetermined cost based on an amount of information provided to the client application, a number of times the client application is installed, and a time period of providing the information in return for continuously provided information associated with the web page. Also, the accounting unit 550 credits the calculated cost to a provider of a corresponding web server. For example, when the information providing unit 530 provides the information to the client application in an event message form, the accounting unit 550 accumulates a number of times the event message is forwarded and may calculate the cost. The calculated cost may be credited to the user of the client terminal or a company providing the web server.
The online information providing server 500 may further include a receiving unit 560.
The receiving unit 560 receives history information about the web page or another web page, connected via the web page, from the client application. For example, the history information includes information about Internet cookies, log information, and Internet temporary files information. In this instance, the information providing unit 530 transmits information associated with the history. That is, the online information providing server 500 controls the client application to be installed in the client terminal when the user terminates the connection to the web page, and thereby may provide differentiated information to the user using the received history information about web pages that the user looks at. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the online information providing server 500 receives authorization information from the user, authorizes the user based on the authorization information, and provides the differentiated information to only the authorized user of the client terminal. Accordingly, privacy of the user and another user, using the same client terminal, may be protected with respect to the information provided from the online information providing server 500. The authorization may be performed by log-in, that is, inputting an identification (ID) and password, or inputting only a code.
Accordingly, the online information providing server 500 installs the client application unlike a pop-up spam browser, and thus the user may feel more comfortable with the installation, and a penetration of the client application may increase. Also, the online information providing server 500 may guarantee a reasonable profit to a provider and provide the user with a quality service.
The above-described embodiment of the present invention may be recorded in computer-readable media including program instructions to implement various operations embodied by a computer. The media may also include, alone or in combination with the program instructions, data files, data structures, and the like. The media and program instructions may be those specially designed and constructed for the purposes of the present invention, or they may be of the kind well-known and available to those having skill in the computer software arts. Examples of computer-readable media include magnetic media such as hard disks, floppy disks, and magnetic tape; optical media such as CD ROM disks and DVD; magneto-optical media such as optical disks; and hardware devices that are specially configured to store and perform program instructions, such as read-only memory (ROM), random access memory (RAM), flash memory, and the like. Examples of program instructions include both machine code, such as produced by a compiler, and files containing higher level code that may be executed by the computer using an interpreter. The described hardware devices may be configured to act as one or more software modules in order to perform the operations of the above-described embodiments of the present invention.
According to the present invention, a method and server for providing online information installs a client application after terminating a connection to a web page.
Also, according to the present invention, a method and server for providing online information overcomes a low loading speed due to an installation of a client application when connecting to a web page.
Also, according to the present invention, a method and server for providing online information installs a client application by differing from a spam browser, and thus a user may feel more comfortable with the installation of the client application and a penetration of the client application continuously providing information may increase.
Also, according to the present invention, a method and server for providing online information which credits a cost according to an amount of information transmitted to a client terminal, a number of client application installations, and a period of providing the information, and thereby may guarantee a reasonable profit to a server provider and provide a quality service to a user.
