Abstract
Disclosed are: an adamantyl ethanol which is useful as a raw material for a medicine or a highly functional industrial material or the like; and a process for producing the adamantyl ethanol. Specifically disclosed are: an adamantyl ethanol represented by the general formula (I) or (II); a process for producing an adamantyl ethanol represented by the general formula (I), comprising the steps of reacting an adamantanone represented by the general formula (III) with a compound represented by the general formula (IV) to synthesize an adamantyl acetate represented by the general formula (V) and reducing the adamantyl acetate, thereby producing the adamantyl ethanol; and a process for producing an adamantyl ethanol represented by the general formula (II), comprising the steps of reacting an adamantanone represented by the general formula (III) with a compound represented by the general formula (VI) to synthesize an adamantyl acetate represented by the general formula (VII) and reducing the adamantyl acetate, thereby producing the adamantyl ethanol. In the formulae, Y represents H or the like; n represents an integer of 1 to 14; R1 to R3 independently represent H or the like; and R4 to R6 independently represent C2H5 or the like.
