Description

CLOTHING ATTACHMENT MEANS AND KIT
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a clothing attachment means and kit.
More particularly, the present invention relates to a clothing attachment means and kit for use with clothing, such as for repairing clothing.
BACKGROUND TO INVENTION
Frequently used articles of clothing are susceptible to weakening through repeated wearing and washing over time. This results in the clothing becoming damaged by the tearing or breaking of cotton threads, which often further results in buttons falling off or of hems or turn-ups coming undone. Although it is possible to repair this damage by taking the clothing to a tailor, the damage often occurs when it is inopportune to find a tailor, such as when away from home and staying in a hotel.
For this reason many hotels provide complimentary sewing kits as part of their room accessories. Unfortunately, not everyone is equally capable with a sewing needle and some people may find it difficult to correctly sew a button or hem onto an article of clothing.
It is an object of the invention to suggest a clothing attachment means and kit which will assist in overcoming these problems.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to the invention, a clothing attachment means includes a support web; at least one adhesive strip removably supported by the web; and at least one cover sheet, each cover sheet being adapted to removably cover one of the adhesive strips.
The support web may have a number of folding lines dividing the web into a number of discrete sections.
The folding lines may be perforated being adapted to allow each section to be torn away from the support web. The adhesive strip may be removably provided on a backing sheet that is fixedly attached to the web.
The support web may be rolled up upon itself.
Also according to the invention, a clothing attachment kit includes a support frame; at least one adhesive strip removably supported on the frame; at least one cover sheet, each cover sheet being adapted to removably cover one of the adhesive strips; at least one fabric piece having an adhesive face and a non- adhesive face, wherein the adhesive face is removably supported by the frame; and a button joined to the non-adhesive face of each fabric piece.
The support frame may be a fold-over holder having opposite free ends, which can be folded over to secure one end beneath the opposite end.
Each adhesive strip may be removably provided on a backing sheet that is fixedly attached to the support frame.
The adhesive face of the fabric piece may be removably carried on a second backing sheet that is fixedly joined to the frame.
The fabric piece may be spun bond fleece material having a weight of between 40 g/m2 - 60 g/m2.
The adhesive strip may be a double coated tape manufactured by 3M Corporation and provided with their 300MP adhesive.
Further according to the invention, a clothing attachment kit includes
a) at least one hem repair unit having an adhesive strip removably supported on a support web, with each adhesive strip being removably covered by a cover sheet; and
b) at least one button repair unit having a fabric piece with an adhesive face and a non-adhesive face, with each adhesive face being removably covered by a cover sheet and with a button being joined to the non- adhesive face of each fabric piece. Further according to the invention, a method of providing a temporary hem in an article of clothing includes the steps of providing an adhesive strip having opposite first and second adhesive faces, wherein the second adhesive face is covered by a removable cover sheet; of attaching the first adhesive face to an article of clothing; of removing the cover sheet from the second adhesive face; and of folding over a part of the article of clothing and adhering it to the second adhesive face.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings.
In the drawings there is shown in:
Figure 1 : A plan view of a clothing attachment means according to the invention;
Figure 2: A front view of a clothing attachment kit according to the invention, shown in an open configuration; and
Figure 3: A side view of the clothing attachment kit of Figure 1, shown in a closed configuration.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, a clothing attachment means, generally indicated by reference numeral 10, is shown. The attachment means 10 includes a flexible support web 12, having a number of folding lines 14 that divide the web 12 into a number of discrete sections 16. The folding lines 14 can be perforated to allow the sections 16 to be torn away consecutively. Each section 16 is provided with an adhesive strip 18 that is covered by a removable cover sheet 20.
In use, the attachment means 10 is used to repair a damaged hem of an article of clothing. The cover sheet 20 and adhesive strip 18 are removed from the support web 12 and adhered to an article of clothing where a hem is needed. Thereafter the cover sheet 20 is removed and the clothing is folded over and pressed against the adhesive strip 18 so that it adheres thereto. In this way a hem can be formed which will last sufficiently long until the hem can be properly repaired, such as by a tailor.
Referring now to Figures 2 and 3, a clothing attachment kit generally indicated by reference numeral 30, is shown. The kit 30 includes a support frame 32 in the form of a fold-over holder, such as is used in providing tear-off wooden matches. The frame 32 has a first wall 34 extending into a second wall 36, which can be folded over and held behind a folded-over third wall 38.
The frame 32 supports an adhesive strip 40. The adhesive strip 40 is removably carried between a first backing sheet 42, which is fixedly joined to the second wall 36, and a removable cover sheet 44.
The frame 32 further supports at least one button arrangement 46. The button arrangement 46 includes a button 48 sewn onto a fabric piece 50, which has an adhesive face opposite to its face with the button 48. The adhesive face of the fabric piece 50 is removably carried on a second backing sheet 52 that is fixedly joined to the second wall 36.
In an alternative embodiment, which is not illustrated, the adhesive strip 40 with its sheets 42,44 and the button arrangement 46 can be separately inserted into a bag.
In use, the attachment kit 30 can be used to provide means for repairing a damaged hem of an article of clothing or to provide a temporary button on an article of clothing.
To provide a hem, the cover sheet 44 and adhesive strip 40 are removed from the first backing sheet 42 and adhered to an article of clothing where a hem is needed. Thereafter the cover sheet 44 is removed and the clothing is folded over and pressed against the adhesive strip 40 so that it adheres thereto. In this way a hem can be formed which will last sufficiently long until the hem can be properly repaired, such as by a tailor. Alternatively, to provide a temporary button, the button arrangement 46 is removed from the second backing sheet 52 and the adhesive face of the fabric piece 50 is pressed against an article of clothing where the button 48 is needed.
The fabric piece 26 can be spun bond fleece material having a weight of about 40-60 g/m2.
The adhesive strip 40 may be a double coated tape manufactured by 3M Corporation and provided with their 300MP adhesive.
