Abstract
The movable water supply system, facilitates the carpet washing and or dry cleaning. It is about a water supply system, supplying a portable washing machine, with a continuous water flow. A water hose (9) of said water supply mechanism, runs through caterpillars (8), (12) without being folded, and the whole of the system moves on rails. It is joined to the washing machine, by means of a joining mechanism with the hose (9) and moves driven by the movement of the portable washing machine, on the carpet. A construction of a joining mechanism, is fixed on the washing machine, being especially constructed for each particular washing machine model. Said joining mechanism consists of various parts, being suitably joined together, so that as, to be able to be fixed on the washing machine. The water runs through a layout and comes out of sprayers (30), forming the desirable water jet. Underground pipes (63) are placed on the floor, through which the water springs, so when the carpet is between the two water layers during washing, the carpet rinsing becoming much easier.
Description
MOVABLE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR CARPET WASHING
The present invention relates to a water supply system and a method, intended for washing and or dry cleaning of carpets and the like, such as fitted carpets, long haired rugs, blankets etc, being invented, designed and offered in the market at first, by myself exclusively.
It is known that there are various portable washing machines for the washing and or dry cleaning of the carpets that are widely used. Some models of said washing machines are capable of being used, as the case may be, for either the washing and or the dry cleaning of carpets. The dry cleaning method is either employed for cleaning on the spot, or on carpets that lose color and generally speaking, in cases where the use of a plentiful supply of water is not possible' the cleaning quality of said method being, not at all satisfactory and furthermore, even though in well-organized places i.e. in carpet cleaners', said process being time-consuming, for the reason that, the washing machine drum has to be continuously filled with the relative washing materials. There are also automatic carpet cleaning machines, their principle of function being based on a conveyor belt, conveying the carpet under the brushes and the water - detergent sprayers, so that the carpet is soaked, by said water sprayers and brushed by the brushes, during traveling. Although, these machines have the large scale production advantage, they have the disadvantage of cleaning quality, for the reason that only the carpet surface is soaked with water, i.e the side of the pile of the carpet. Even though if sprayers are placed, for the carpet underside - i.e. at the knots' side- to be soaked, the carpet will not be soaked by the water, because of the tight weave, this leading to a superficially clean carpet surface, by virtue of the brushing on the one hand and the use of detergents on the other, however the carpet is not in fact being rinsed. By brushing, fluff is created, being stuck on the carpet surface, this resulting to an additional fluff removal process, before packaging of the carpet, involving an additional expense. Also, these machines are particularly expensive to buy and their large scale production is based on the speeding of their conveyor belt, whilst a speed reduction of said conveyor belt, results to an improved washing quality, this leading to a production reduction and at the same time an increased consumption of water and detergent.
The most widely used carpet washing method being the following. The carpet is laid on the floor, soaked with plenty of water together with the required detergent, then rubbed off, by a portable carpet washing machine and finally rinsed, by the use of a simple tool, - in fact, being a shaft bearing a metal plate of approximately 35 X 12 cm, fixed at one of its ends, that looks like a rake with no indents -, being called kelberi in the carpet cleaners' language. Two people are usually occupied in this work, one for wetting of the carpet, by means of a water hose, while the other is pressing and by moving the kelberi tool at the same time, the water is removed and thus the rinsing of the carpet is achieved. This kind of work being very tiring.
The object of this invention is to improve the carpet washing, rinsing and wetting methods, to facilitate the carpet dry cleaning process, as well as, to reduce the cost of labor and the washing quality. The present invention relates to a movable water supply system and a water supply method, being able to supply the washing machines and or the dry cleaning machines, with a continuous water flow together with the rest of materials simultaneously, said movable water supply system being joint to the washing machine, by means of one or more water hoses, through a joining mechanism being fastened on the washing machine, in such a way that whilst the washing machine is traveling on the carpet surface, to also drive the movable water supply system, in a relative movement. It is also referred to a carpet rinsing method, a carpet underside wetting method, i.e the knot surface, as well as it refers to a construction of sprayers for a desirable water jet formation.
It has been proved by experimentation, that rinsing of the carpets requires less time, while at the same the cleaning quality is improved, in the case when, after shampooing by a portable washing machine, the rubbing off the carpet is carried on, in combination with clean water, flowing close to the washing machine, so that the carpet is rubbed off, using clean water by the machine, instead of rinsing using the traditional kelberi tool. Also, has been proved by relative experimentation that, in the case underground pipes with opening provisions are fixed, in such a way that water is able to jet through the ground and the carpet is laid on said floor jet openings, then the carpet is wet throughout, due to its long stay on the floor, whereas on the contrary, in the case of use of automatic washing machines the traveling of carpet, is carried out by the conveyor belt and every point of the carpet is wet instantly, without having any soaking time allowance. The present invention is also useful for carpet dry cleaning. In the case of foam cleaning, the foam may be piped through, in the same way as the water is piped during the carpet washing, without one having to continuously fill the machine drum with detergent, this leading to a time and labor cost save. In case the dry cleaning is carried out by the use of spraying and simultaneous detergent absorbance, the water hoses may be joined to the water supply system, so that the movement of the washing machine on the carpet is facilitated, without the spraying and absorption hoses being folded. These machines consist of two parts, a stable one where the absorption and spraying pumps with the dirty water collection drum and the detergent drum are fixed together, and another part being a device traveling on the carpet surface, bearing the sprayers, the brush and the absorption system. The water supply mechanism may be inserted between those two parts of the cleaning machine. With this specific carpet washing method and the movable water supply system, the labor cost is reduced, for, when the carpet is rinsed by the use of kelberi tool, as described above, there is the need of use of two workers, whereas by using the invention one worker is sufficient, for the same kind of work. By using the method of simultaneous wetting of both carpet sides, described above, the improvement of washing quality is achieved. The construction expense of the movable water supply system is low, there is no operation expense, - there is no need for any energy consumption-as well as, there is almost no
maintenance expense. It is easily fixed, by means of supports either on the ceiling, or on the floor, whereas the productivity of this particular method comes up to that of the automatic carpet washing machines, while the washing quality is kept at a very high level.

Specifically, the movable water supply system, consists of a mounting (1), said mounting being fixed on four rollers (2), said rollers (2) resting and being able to move on rails (13) in a lengthwise forward-backwards motion, as shown on the rail (13) cross-section. A construction (3), is fixed on said mounting (1) and rails (4) are in turn are fixed, on said construction (3). A small size mounting-frame (5) is fixed on four rollers (6). Said rollers (6) being fixed and moving in a rightward-leftward direction on the rails (4), as shown on the cross section of the rails (4). A metal sheet (7) is fixed on the mounting (1). On said metal sheet (7), a caterpillar (8) is fixed being able to move in a forward-backward direction, as shown by the arrow A-B, the one end of said caterpillar (8), being firmly fixed on the metal sheet (7), whilst the other end being fixed on the small size mounting-frame (5), in such a way that one of the ends of the caterpillar (8), is driven in motion, by the motion of said small size mounting-frame (5). Also, a part of the water pipe (9) being run through the inside of the caterpillar (8), said water pipe (9) following the caterpillar (8) motion without being folded. The parts of the water pipe (9) are joined together, so as to constitute a unique water supply, together with the pipes (10) of figure (P)- A support (11) is fixed on the mounting (1) on which support (11), one of the two ends of a second caterpillar (12) is fixed. The water pipes (10) are respectively fixed on the small size mounting-frame (5) and on the support (11). The construction described above from number (1) to the caterpillar (12) constitutes the part of the construction being able to move in a forward-backward direction, as shown by the arrow f-Δ, resting on the rails (13) and driving in motion the caterpillar (12).
A part of the water hose (9) runs through the inside of caterpillar (12), and moves without being folded. Supports (14) are fixed on one of the rails (13). On said supports (14) a metal sheet (15) is fixed and on said metal sheet (15) the caterpillar (12) is fixed, by means of one of its ends and is being able to move, whilst its other end is fixed on the support (11). The rails (13) may either be hung from the ceiling (16) by means of supports (17) or be fixed on the ground (62) by means of supports (19). The carpet washing and or dry cleaning machine (20) is joined to the water supply mechanism.
For the reason that, there are different types and models of carpet washing and or dry cleaning machines, in the market, having small shape differences, four alternative demonstrative types of joining mechanisms of the washing machine to the water supply mechanism, are presented.
According to a first embodiment of the invention a joining mechanism is constructed, haying various dimensions, being suitable for any type and model of washing machine, through which the joining of the washing machine to the water supply mechanism is allowed and additionally, the machine electric motor is protected from the water. Specifically, a support mounting (21) is fixed on the washing machine (20), which support mounting (21) is fixed on supports (22) by means of screws, the end of the horizontal part of the supports having a hole with screws. The supports (22) are fixed peripherally, by means of clutches (23). The supports (22) are fixed prior to collar (23) tightening, so as the support screws of the supports (22) to be in alignment and be able to fit to the holes of the mounting (21), whilst an electric motor protective cover (24) and the mounting (21) are fixed on said supports.
The machine electric motor is protected from the waters by means of a protective jacket, consisting of a mounting (25) and a cover (24). The mounting (25) is a sheet, preferably of plastic material, from which a central piece is removed by means of a pattern, so as to able to be applied at the bottom of the washing machine electric motor, and also being cut at such a point, so as to be able to be opened and bent, in order to be mounted at the electric motor bottom. Its respective sides are punched at the cutting point and are finally being re-joined, after having been put at the electric motor bottom, by means of a glue and a suitable yam.
The cover (24) has holes, respective to the mounting (21) on the top side. In case that the washing machine model requires ventilation for cooling of the electric motor, suitable openings are provided on said cover. The cover (24) is applied on the sheet (25), enclosing the washing machine motor and their joining point thereof may be sealed, by means of silicone. The mounting (21), is placed on the top of the cover and both cover and mounting (21) are fixed on the of supports (22), by means of screws. A pipe (26) is fixed at the , relative place of mounting (21), a T shaped piece (27), is screwed at one of its ends, whereas an angle (28) is screwed at its other end. At the ends of said T shaped piece (27), pipes (29) are screwed, at the ends of which the sprayers (30) are fixed, through which the water and the rest of materials suitable for the carpet washing and or the dry cleaning, come out. At one of the ends of the angle (28), one part of a union is screwed up, whereas the other part of said union is screwed up on a water supply switch (32), which in turn is fixed on the water hose (9). The attachment - detachment of the carpet washing and or dry cleaning machine to the water supply mechanism, is easily carried out through the use of the union (31). Said joining mechanism of the carpet washing machine comprises, the sprayers (30) which form the water flow in a desirable water jet formation. Sprayers are found ready made in the market, although those depicted on the joining mechanism are made of a metal plate (30). Said metal plate (30) is shaped and holes are opened, so that the sprayers (30) to be able to be joined on the pipes (29). The water, coming out of the pipe (30)and by hitting
on the inclined surface of the sprayer (30) is spread on its surface, thus forming the desirable water jet formation. The specific sprayer construction serves for the specific work very well and the construction cost is small. According to a second embodiment of the invention, a joining mechanism is constructed, being capable of being fixed on more than one models of washing machines and specifically on washing machines where the electric motor cover has flat surfaces.
Said joining mechanism consists of a protective sheath (41), type (A) vertical supports, a type (Δ) mounting of parallelogram cross-section, an electric motor cover (51) and (52) a rod (49), a rod support (50), a metal sheet having screws (46), a metal sheet having holes (47), a water supply layout support (48), screws (53), a water supply layout towards the sprayers -Fig. 14- and a part of the union (36). Specifically, the joining mechanism is placed on the washing machine -
Fig. 15 and 16. On fig. 14, the water supply layout towards the sprayers, as well as one of the parts of the union (36), by means of which the washing machine is joined to the water supply mechanism, are shown. The joining is carried out in the same way as in the case of the first type (9) and (31). The water supply layout towards the sprayers, is the same as the first type water supply layout. The union (31) is the same as the union (36). On drawing 17 said joining mechanism is shown in whole, without the machine electric motor protective cover from the water.
For the purpose of additional protection of the machine electric motor, the protective cover (41) is either made of metal or plastic sheet, allowing for cooling of the electric motor, at the same time.
The type (A) vertical supports, consist of a perforated metal plate (43), an angle (44), also being perforated, so that regulation of the screwing height on the metal sheet is allowed, - fig. 18 -, as shown by the arrow H-Θ, a perforated block (45) of parallelogram cross-section, so as to be able to be applied on the mounting (42), said block (45) having screws in order to be able to be fixed on the mounting (42). By means of screws (53), being able to be fixed at any desirable point on the mounting, as shown by the arrow Λ-M. On fig. 19m, the way of joining of the parts of a type (A) vertical support is shown. On fig. 20 a type (A) vertical support is shown and on fig. 22 the way of fixing of the type (A) vertical supports on the mounting (42), is shown, being fixed in such a way that, the machine electric motor is surrounded, after the angles (44) having been regulated at the right height and the blocks (45) are placed in the right position and the screws (53) are tightened. The rod (49) being perforated at one of its ends, is being stuck on the mounting (42) and being fixed on the washing machine arm (40) by means of the support (50). The opening being at its end, allows for the washing machine arm (40) to move to the direction of the arrow (E-Z), so that the machine handles are able to be regulated at different heights. The metal sheet having screws (46) is stuck on the rod (49). The electric motor cover (51) being made of either a metal or plastic sheet, has an opening in order to enable the rod (49), to get through in such a way that after the cover having been put over the rod, the cover (52) to be able to be placed, for the purpose of sealing.
Holes are provided at the top side of the cover, corresponding to the metal sheets (46) and (47), said metal sheet (47) also bearing holes corresponding to the cover (51). One of the parts of the support (48) is stuck on the metal sheet. The metal plate is screwed on the metal sheet (46), by means the screws (53), this resulting to the fixing of the cover (51). The water supply layout towards the sprayers is placed on the right position - fig. 14 and fig. 16- and the other part of the support (48) is screwed by means of the screws (53), so that the water supply layout towards the sprayers, are fixed.
On fig. 23, from bottom to the top of the page, the order the parts of the joining mechanism are fixed together, is shown.
According to a third embodiment of the invention, a joining mechanism is constructed, being able to be fixed on almost all types of washing machines. It differs from the second type at the vertical supports, the mounting, and the way of fixing of the vertical supports on the mounting. On this type of joining mechanism, the mounting is a circular cross section type (E) and the vertical supports are (B) type, consisting of a nut (54), a metal plate (55), being perforated in two points, so as, to enable the type (E) mounting, to get through one of the points and the screws (53) being able to get through its other point. The hole diameter is larger than the screw diameter, so that the angle (56) is enabled to be fixed at different points, as shown by the arrow (H-Θ). The angle (56) having holes at one of its sides corresponding to the metal sheet (55), being fixed on said metal plate (55) as shown on the fig. 26 and or reversibly- i.e., its horizontal part is being placed on the upper side.
On Fig. 26 the way of joining together the parts of a type (B) vertical support is shown and on fig. 27, a vertical type (B) is shown.
The angles (56) are joined together with the metal plates (55), said angles being placed at the right height, and tightened together, by means of the screws (53), as shown by the arrow (HΘ), and finally the metal sheet is put through the type (E) mounting, is adjusted at the right position and the nut (54) is tightened, as shown by the arrow (Λ-M).
On fig. 32 the way, that the type (B) vertical supports are applied on the type (E) mounting, is shown, so that are fixed and the machine electric motor is surrounded. The rest of the parts and the assemblance way being the same, as the one of the second type joining mechanism. The same also, being the way of joining to the water supply mechanism.
According to a forth embodiment of the invention, the type (B) vertical supports of the third type construction are possible to be replaced, by the third type (F) vertical supports, according to circumstances. With said type (F) vertical supports, an additional possibility is provided' i.e the mounting (60) is allowed to rotate around the pivot (58) as shown in fig. 30, according to the arrow (I-K). The vertical type (F) supports consist of a ring (57) and a pivot (58) being stuck with one another, as well as of another ring having screws (59) and a plate of metal, being bent at one of its ends, also being stuck with one another, so as to operate like a hook (60). On Fig. 29, the way the vertical type (F) is assembled, is shown and on fig. 30, said vertical support being fixed on the type (E) mounting of the fig. 31 , is shown.
According to a fifth embodiment of the invention a joining mechanism is constructed, being able to be fixed on every type of washing machine, from which joining mechanism all parts are removed, except for the rod (49) and the support (50) and at the end of the rod (49), the water supply hose (9) is fixed by any suitable way.
A part of the water supply mechanism also being, the carpets' under side wetting method, by means of the underground piping (63). According to said method, during the floor construction, piping is installed in the ground, enabling the water (65) to jet. The water flow is controlled by means of the switches (64), so that, depending on the carpet surface size, - large or small-, the ability for the water to jet from either a few or more openings, is being provided, thus the water consumption is regulated to the quantity necessary. The water flows to the direction of the hand index starting from point (O)- fig. 33.
The whole system operates as follows: The carpet to be washed is laid - fig. (33), on the floor (62), onto the openings of the underground piping (65). The washing machine is connected to the water supply mechanism, by means of the union (31). One worker shampoos the carpet by means of the washing machine (20), by moving the washing machine forwards-backwards and rightward-leftward on the carpet. By the right-left movement of the washing machine on the carpet surface, the small mounting-frame (5), being fixed at one end of the caterpillar (8) is driven in motion, so that the caterpillar (8), moves forwards-backwards and the part of the water hose (9) being positioned in the caterpillar' s internal, follows the same movement, without being folded. The small mounting-frame (5) rests on the rollers (6) moving on the rails (4). By the forwards-backwards movement of the washing machine on the carpet surface, the whole of the mounting (1) carrying the construction (3), is driven in motion. The mounting (1) is fixed on the rails (2) which move on the rails (13). The caterpillar (12) moves forwards-backwards, driven by the support (11) and the part of water hose (9) being positioned in its internal follows the same movement without being folded. For rinsing the carpet, the water switch (32), as well as the underground piping switches (64) are turned on, while the worker continues brushing the carpet surface by means of the washing machine. When using the carpet dry cleaning method, the material suitable for dry cleaning is piped through, instead of water. When, carpet dry cleaning, by the spraying method and the simultaneous detergent absorption, is carried out, there is the need of addition of an extra hose in the internal of the caterpillars. The water supply mechanism, is easily driven by the movement of the washing machine, for the reason that it is very light. A revolution union (34) is placed on the hose (9), so that the rotation of the washing machine is facilitated, without the hose being folded. The direction of the water flow is shown on fig. 1 , starting from the point (0) to the sprayers (30), following the hand index.
It has to be clarified at this point that the caterpillars (9) & (12) are especially constructed cases, so as to enable the water hoses, cords etc, to run through their internal, said remaining at a fixed place and being able, to
simultaneously move being driven, by the caterpillar movement. More than two caterpillars may be fixed in a parallel sense. Also, more than one water hoses may be positioned in the caterpillar's internal of the water supply mechanism, as well as cables for a lighting supply, cables for the placement of switches, for switching on and off of the cleaning material supply pumps and washing machine cables. There are many types of trucks in the market.
The rails being a mechanism usually made of a suitably shaped metal sheet, so as to enable the rollers, to either move on their external and or internal. At the ends of the rails on which the rollers move, stops are fixed, so as to prevent the rollers of getting out of the rails. There are many types of rails in the market.
The water supply mechanism is possible to move by means of electric motors. Said motors may be fixed on the rails, the position of the washing machine may be detected by electric and electronic means. Depending on the washing machine position, the motors may move either rightward or leftward.
Additional materials for the carpet rinsing, such us softeners, water softeners etc., may either be piped through hoses are positioned parallel to the water hose, where all hoses are positioned in the internal of caterpillars and together with the water supply mechanism, constituting an integral construction, or these additional materials may be added in a water tank, from which the hose of the water supply mechanism is supplied. The supply of rinsing materials may be carried out, by a natural flowing, either from tanks being placed at a higher level or from pumps. The above mentioned are not presented by means of drawings, for the reason that they constitute self evident details and for this, a mere reference is considered to be sufficient.
On fig. 1 , where a portable washing machine (35), the washing machine drum is also shown- it is easily understood that its capacity is small. Said drum is filled with the appropriate detergent when the carpets are to be cleaned by the dry cleaning method, whilst by using the water supply mechanism the work may be continuous without any filling of the drum, interruption.
The water supply mechanism has been designed to be used at the carpet cleaners', however it may also be applied, for car washing etc, and generally in any case where one or more hoses or cables are required to easily move, towards any direction on a certain surface.
