Abstract

In order to guide the administration of analgesic drugs to a patient under anaesthesia, a method an and apparatus for assessing the level of nociception by calculating an index of nociception based on measurements of Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP) is applied. Several parameters derived from the AEP signals are used as an input for an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) that calculates an index of nociception represented in a scale from 40 to 0, where a value of 40 means high sensitivity to noxious stimuli while a decreasing index means a lower sensitivity to noxious stimulation.
