Definitions
- This invention relates to a container, more specifically to a container for mixing and dispensing fluids.
- a container characterised in that it includes two compartments separated by a removable partition and wherein graduations are provided for each compartment.
- the partition to provide a fluid impervious seal between the compartments; for the graduations to be provided on the container; for the container to be open-topped; for the container to include a handle; and for the container to include a spout.
- the container to include a slot on its inner surface wherein the partition locates.
- the slot to be defined by a pair of parallel flanges extending from the surface of the container; alternatively for the slot to be formed in the surface of the container.
- the partition to include a flexible skirt extending along the periphery thereof engageable with the container.
- a further feature of the invention provides for there to be more than two compartments separated by one or more removable partitions.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of a container
- Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation of the container in Figure 1 ;
- Figure 3 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of a container
- Figure 4 is a perspective view of a third embodiment of a container.
- Figure 5 is a perspective view of a fourth embodiment of a container.
- a container (1) is shown in Figures 1 and 2 and is shaped to form a jug or pitcher having an elongate open top (3) with rounded corners and with substantially upright sides (5, 6, 7, 8).
- a spout (10) is provided centrally in the side (8) adjacent the top (3) and a handle (12) provided on the side (7).
- a partition (15) formed by a sheet of plastics material extends from the bottom (16) of the container (1 ) between the sides (5, 6) spaced apart from the side (7).
- the partition (15) is slideably received in a slot (18) defined between a pair of parallel flanges (19) extending along the inner surface of the sides (5, 6) and bottom (16).
- the partition (15) divides the jug into a pair of compartments (22, 23) and provides a fluid impervious barrier between these.
- a series of graduations (25, 26) indicating volume are provided on the side (5) of the jug (1 ) corresponding to each compartment (22, 23).
- the jug (1 ) is moulded from a translucent plastics material so that the contents can be measured against the graduations (25; 26) from the exterior thereof.
- the partition (15) is secured in position by sliding it fully into the slot (18).
- a first liquid (30) can be measured into the compartment (22) while a second liquid (32) is separately measured into the compartment (23).
- the partition (15) is removed to allow the liquids (30, 32) to mix whereafter the mixture can be poured from the jug (1 ).
- An oval aperture (35) is provided in the partition (15) adjacent the upper end thereof to form a handle to facilitate removal thereof from the slot (18).
- the container thus provides a simple, easy to use, yet highly effective means of measuring liquids that have to be mixed together.
- the partition (40) could have the shape of a cylindrical tube split down its length and of the same height of the side (42) of the jug (1 ).
- the partition (40) is inserted into the container with the sides (46) abutting the side (42) of the jug and the end (47) resting on the bottom (49) of the jug (1). In this position the skirt (45) adheres to the inner surfaces of the jug (1) to provide a liquid impervious seal.
- the partition will be located adjacent graduations (50) on the side (42) of the jug (1 ) to enable liquids poured into the compartment formed between the partition (40) and the side (42) and bottom (49) of the jug (1) to be measured.
- a further set of graduations (52) on the side (42) are calibrated to take into account the reduction of volume in the jug (1 ) with the partition (40) in use to allow a second liquid to be measured into the compartment formed by the outside surface of the partition and the remainder of the jug (1 ).
- the partition (60) could take the form of an open-ended tube with a flexible skirt (62) extending about its lower end (64).
- Graduations (65) can be provided on the partition (60) itself and a further set (67) on the jug (1 ).
- the partition (60) is simply located with its skirt (62) seated on the bottom (69) of the jug (1 ) to form a compartment between the bottom (69) and its internal surface with a further compartment being provided by the remaining volume of the jug (1 ).
- the container can be provided with more than two compartments. This may be particularly useful where it is desired to mix cocktails and the like which have three or more different components.
- One method of doing so is by simply providing more partitions.
- the partition (70) can be shaped to divide the container into more than two compartments.
- the partition (70) has a T shape which enables three compartments to be formed, a large compartment (71) and two smaller compartments (72, 73).
- a flexible skirt (75) extending about the edges of the partition (70) in contact with the container (1 ) provides a fluid impervious seal.
- the container and compartment can have any suitable shape and can have graduations which permit measurement without a partition therein and any suitable material can be used in the construction thereof.

Abstract
A container (1 ) is provided which includes two compartments (22, 23) separated by a removable partition (15). Graduations (25, 26) are provided for each compartment (22, 23) to enable liquids to be separately measured and subsequently mixed.
