Abstract

Disclosed are a system and method for allowing a user to specify the choice of how and when RLS has to generate NOTIFY requests. As a result, it becomes possible to optimize the presence notifications by avoiding unnecessary and sometimes annoying notifications. This is possible by allowing a user to specify RLS notification rule in the initial SIP SUBSCRIBE. Therefore, the present invention allows the Watcher to specify filters in SIP SUBSCRIBE. The present invention further indicates the expected behavior of an RLS when such RLS notification rules exist in SIP SUBSCRIBE.
