Description
Gassensor zur Bestimmung der Sauerstoffkonzentration Gas sensor for determining the oxygen concentration
Stand der TechnikState of the art
The invention is based on a gas sensor for determining the oxygen concentration in a measuring gas, in particular lambda probe for the mixture control in motor vehicles, according to the preamble of claim 1.
In such a gas sensor, the sensor element has a ceramic body of an oxygen ion-conducting solid electrolyte, on the surface of which a measuring electrode covered by a porous protective layer is arranged within the measuring gas element section of the sensor element that can be exposed to the measuring gas. The protective layer serves in addition to the mechanical protection of the measuring electrode also an increased so-called. Poisoning resistance. Between the measuring electrode and a reference electrode separated from the measuring electrode by a reference gas with a defined oxygen content, e.g. the ambient air is exposed, the electrical potential, ie the electrical voltage between the measuring and reference electrode, is continuously measured. The transition from a "rich" sample gas, which contains a high proportion of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons, to a "lean" sample gas, in which a high proportion of oxygen and nitrogen oxides is present, manifests itself in a potential jump or in a jump in the voltage between reference and measuring electrode, the so-called lambda jump. The jump characteristic at λ = 1 of such a so-called jump or λ = 1 probe is suitable for a two-point control for mixture preparation in the fuel intake tract of internal combustion engines in motor vehicles.
Various causes lead to a shift of the lambda jump with respect to the stoichometry of the measuring or exhaust gas. On the one hand, the measuring gas catalytically equilibrated at the measuring electrode causes a constant removal of the rich and lean gas coupled with a continuous removal of the reaction products carbon dioxide and water. Grease gas and lean gas have a different transport speed in the protective layer. For example, hydrogen diffuses faster in the protective layer than Lean gas. Therefore, larger amounts of lean gas than the stoichiometry would be necessary to completely convert hydrogen. The lambda jump is thereby shifted into the lean region (λ> 1). Many hydrocarbons, such as propane, diffuse more slowly than lean gas. The characteristic shifts into the fat range (λ <l). On the other hand, there is an incomplete reaction at the measuring electrode, whereby the measuring electrode is unable to adjust the stoichiometric balance. As a result, the lambda jump shifts. With the lean gases such shifts occur when the measuring electrode and the protective layer are not able to catalyze the reactions of the fat gas with the nitrogen oxides. The nitrogen oxides then act as an inert gas, and more oxygen is needed to convert the fat gases. The lambda jump is thereby shifted into the lean region (λ> 1). Conversely, hydrocarbons that are not completely converted require less lean gas. As a consequence, the characteristic shifts into the fat range (λ <1). However, these effects of shifting the lambda jump occur only when the gas mixture is not in equilibrium. This is always the case when the gas sensor is operated as a lambda probe in the exhaust tract of an internal combustion engine upstream of a catalytic converter. Lambda probes operated downstream of the catalytic converter receive an equilibrium gas mixture and therefore show a very precise lambda jump at λ = 1. With these lambda probes, which are used downstream of the catalytic converter, it is desirable to shift the jump position into the light fat range in order to improve the exhaust gas values, ie to reduce the nitrogen oxide emission. The oxygen storage capacity of three-way catalysts plays an essential role, because in the lean area excess oxygen is stored in the catalyst, which is released again in a subsequent rich phase. If the catalyst is loaded with oxygen, the mentioned undesirable, higher nitrogen oxide emissions arise.
Durch dieseTo remedy this deficiency by shifting the lambda jump in the light fat range (λ <l), has already been proposed (DE 10 2006 01 4697.2) to produce by a circuit arrangement between the reference and measuring electrode an oxygen substance Ström, which leads to the measuring electrode leads, and adjust the size of this oxygen stream at the sample gas flow diffusing through the porous protective layer. Through this
Offenbarung der Erfindung"Additional oxygen source" is made possible that a lambda probe, which is located downstream of a catalyst present in the exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine, has a lambda jump, which is slightly in the fat region (λ <l). Disclosure of the invention
Durch die Zuführung der Umgebungsluft auf die Messgasseite der Dichtung bleibt die gasdichte Abdichtung zwischen Referenzelektrode resp. Referenzgas und Messelektrode resp. Instead of the cross-sectionally small gaps, it is also possible to provide a defined porosity of the ceramic molding 17, so that the ambient air passing through the channels 24 into the ceramic molding 17 can diffuse through the ceramic molding 17.
